Obituary

Dorothy Grace Berry went to be with her Lord and Savior March 30, 2016. Dorothy was born April 18, 1925 in Trinidad, Colorado to William Earl and Adea Ruth (Moody) Bonnette. After graduating high school, Dorothy married John Grant Berry in Kansas City, Kansas on October 16, 1942. During WWII, she served as a civilian "Rosie the Riveter" helping repair aircraft while her husband was serving in the U.S. Navy overseas. As a loving wife, mother and homemaker, she spent her next years raising their three children. Son Jon, and twin daughters Pat and Peg were born in Kansas City. Dorothy had a great love for nature and all animals and spent many hours with all three children taking walks in the wooded area around their home and on vacations, wading in streams, looking for animal tracks, finding wild flowers and hunting for mushrooms. That love has been a legacy that has stayed with them all. She had a wonderful curiosity that was captivated by the space programs that sent the Russian satellite "Sputnik" and U.S. space shuttles into orbit, and finally landed a man to walk on the moon. Her adventurous spirit had her trying anything her children were doing. If they could do it, so could she. After the children were grown, Dorothy and husband John retired to Port Townsend, Washington. They spent many happy years fishing for salmon and flounder and enjoying being by the water with a view of Whidbey Island and Mount Rainier outside their front door. In 1999, Health considerations finally found John and Dorothy settled in Oklahoma City, OK close to their daughter Pat. After John's death in 2005, Dorothy made her home at Baptist Retirement Village in Oklahoma City. Dorothy loved Jesus and was a member of Bethany First Nazarene Church. She had a quiet, steady faith that carried over into later years when poor health deprived her of many of the joys of life. She spent her last years living at Baptist Retirement Center in the memory care unit where she might not remember a visitor's name, but she always knew her children and she would talk about Jesus to those who cared for her. She was ready to go "home" with Jesus when He came for her because she knew Him personally. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, John, brothers Jesse and Kenneth Bonnette, step-brothers Harold and Kenneth Tiedemann. She is survived by her son Jon and wife Jennifer Berry of Buffalo, Mo; twin daughters Pat and husband Paul Burton of Mustang, OK; Peg and husband Rev. Don Moore of Colfax, WA.; grandsons Shawn Berry, Michael Berry, and Chris Moore, and one granddaughter, Randee Hoagland; 11 greatgrandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the staff at Baptist Village Retirement Center, especially the Memory Care unit and Excel Hospice for their very loving care and support. Memorial Service Monday, May 16, 2016 10:00 AM Baptist Village Community Chapel 9700 Mashburn Drive Oklahoma City, OK 73162
