Obituary

Dorotha Roberts was born into the home of Parker and Edna Husselton on August 29, 1934 and entered Heaven on March 15, 2021.Upon gaining her Heavenly reward she was reunited with her husband, Gene, of almost 42 years, parents, sisters, brother, and countless friends she has met at the many churches she had served in throughout her life as both a layman and pastors kid. Her loving spirit lives on through her daughter, Marylynn Green, son-in-law, Rick Green, son, Dave Roberts, daughter-in-law, Cyndi Roberts, seven granddaughters, seven great grandkids, many nieces and nephews, and sister, Barbara Hobbs. Dorotha took extreme pride in her family and loved them fiercely. That love was returned to her time after time by the family she loved so well. Her faith impacted several generations as she taught her children to love Jesus and depend on Him throughout her life. She exemplified faith in action by her passionate prayer life, constant Bible reading, and assurance God was with her. In addition, throughout her life she kept lists of people she would regularly pray for by name, including many teens at her previous and current church. Dorotha took great pride in her work. She initially worked in insurance but was asked to join a bank staff when the banks founder and CEO noticed her attention to detail, strong work ethic, and kind spirit. Dorotha worked there until retirement when she began to enjoy traveling with her sisters and family. During her adult life she was always volunteering at church. She loved serving as a Sunday school teacher for junior high kids, mentoring them and sharing her faith. Many have shared that Dorothas care and teaching still impacts them and their faith in God today. She also served as youth president at her church for many years, sang in the choir, and both she and her husband served on the church board. Dorotha loved to be of service and liked to keep her hands busy, and whether it was helping with tasks at church, volunteering at Tenaciously Teal, or helping with her daughters preschool classroom, her hands were rarely still. Dorotha had a fun and sweet spirit, and her southern hospitality was always on display as she would constantly ask how she could help, set the table just right, and cook for family or those she had invited over who did not have a family to eat with. She also had a great love for tacos, including her homemade fried tacos that family always requested she make, as well as cookies, ice cream with peanuts, chocolate donuts and a good bargain. She was thrifty, partially because she was raised during the depression and mostly so she could be lavishly generous to others. If you knew Dorotha you knew she had "spunk." She was always making her family and those around her laugh, whether that was Christmas gifts that required layers of unwrapping, sewing an armhole closed for a laugh during one of her regular mending projects, her straightforward assessments of what was going on around her, or being silly with her great grandkids. To know Dorotha Roberts was to love her. Despite many trials in her life, she was almost always smiling, she was also patient, faithful, kind, and possessed an unparalleled amount of strength and toughness that saw her through the trying times of life. Dorotha was always concerned about those around her and made great effort to seek out those who were hurting or needed encouragement. Additionally, she always showed up for family and was a staple at many special events throughout her children and grandchildrens life. And she was continuously just a phone call away with a listening ear and words of encouragement when someone needed her. Dorotha loved to love on people, and it is hard to say if she loved people more or if people loved her more, because those who met Dorotha instantly cared for her both children and adults alike. Her gentle spirit, genuine care for others, and strong faith drew people in and made them feel loved. Despite the way Dorotha entered Heaven and all of the pain and suffering, she continued to exude positivity through her discomfort and kept her family laughing. Even though she was reluctant to leave her loved ones behind, she was confident she was moving on to "Jesuss House" and stated she was looking forward to holding His hand and continuing to pray for those she loved so deeply here on Earth. We imagine she heard these words from her Savior when she arrived, "Well done, you loved those around you so well, you were kind, gracious, you looked out for those around you, sought out those who were sad and needed comfort, you forgave others, prayed to me without ceasing, and prayed for others fervently, you always put your faith in me, and shared that faith with others, now enjoy your beautiful reward. I love you Dorotha Roberts." In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made in her honor to Lake Overholser Church for completion of the childrens area.
