Doris Jean Horton went home to be with her Lord Wednesday, March 18, 2015. She was born to proud parents Ted and Mary (Bagley) Wallen on March 16, 1933 in Mountain Park, (near Snyder) Oklahoma. In 1949 she met William Allen "Tex" Horton, a soldier stationed at the Army Language School in Presidio, in Monterey, California. On April 30, 1950 Jean married "Tex" and in July 1951, she gave birth to twin boys. When "Tex" went to war in Korea, Jean was a devoted army wife, taking care of the home front in Monterey and Fort Ord in California, Fort Bliss in Texas, Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri and Fort Riley in Kansas. She gave birth to her third son before joining "Tex" at the 28th Transportation Battalion Turley Barracks in Germany. She was an army wife for twenty and a half years and was able to go to Germany twice! Jean was a natural caregiver and became the primary caregiver to both her husband's parents and her own until their deaths. She was devoted to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Jean was a devout member of the First Baptist Church of Bethany, where she taught faithfully since 1971. She especially loved her Sunday School Class. She will be remembered for her baking skills and cooking wonderful meals. She also enjoyed painting. She expressed love always, through her generosity and in how she ministered care to others around her.
