Dora Jane Betchan, of Bethany, Oklahoma went to heaven on Friday, December 29, 2017 at the age of 92. She was born on May 10, 1925 in Orlando, Oklahoma to Emory and Artella Knott. Dora Jane married Charles William Dobson on September 2, 1941 and they had one son, William Harvey Dobson. Following World War II, she and her son moved from Pueblo, Colorado back to Orlando, Oklahoma where she met Dale (Chub) Betchan. They married February 15, 1949. They had two daughters, Cynthia Jane and Nancy Artella. She was a telephone operator for 38 years living in Orlando, Oklahoma; Perry, Oklahoma; Arkansas City, Kansas; and Stillwater, Oklahoma before retiring from AT&T in Bethany, Oklahoma in 1986. She was an active retiree working at Will Rogers Senior Citizens Center and performing plays and skits for several organizations, churches, and schools. Because of her involvement in the community she was recognized as one of Western Oklahoma's "Ageless Heroes." For many years she was active in her church, Forest Hill Christian Church, and enjoyed performing in their Journey to Bethlehem Christmas pageant.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 14 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William H. Dobson (Glinda) Tulsa, Oklahoma; daughters, Cindy Kearney, Bethany, Oklahoma and Nancy Anderson, Cushing, Oklahoma; grandsons, Brian Kearney (Jamie), Bethlehem, Georgia and Hunter Anderson (Janet), Mico, Texas; granddaughter, Jessica Jane Wood (Luke), Cushing, Oklahoma; four great-grandsons, Ryan, Jaxon, Trace, and Owen; 2 great-granddaughters, Ashlynn and Natalie; and many nieces and nephews.
Dora Jane had a genuine gift of love and caring for others as was witnessed by her many constant lifelong friends. One of her dearest, special friends, Teresa Webber (TW) was by her side every Tuesday during her illness.
The family wishes to thank Hospice, the nurses and caregivers for their kindness and gentle care.
Service will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service Chapel,
