Obituary

Our dearest mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Donna Shaw, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on September 13, 2012. Donna was born on June 20th, 1936 in Tacoma, Washington, the only daughter of Joseph and Emma Rogers of Salinas, California (both deceased). She grew up in Salinas, then moved to Santa Monica where she was a model. After joining the WACs she met the love of her life, Lewis Martin (Marty) Shaw of Poteau, Oklahoma. Donna and Lewis were married in April of 1955 in Tacoma, Washington. They began their wonderful journey together, which included raising five children. She was predeceased by her husband and is survived by her five children, ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Survivors include: Lewis Shaw Jr. and wife, Teresa, of Plains, Montana; Jen (Lolly) Shaw of Bethany; Rebecca Miller of Poteau; Debra Hardesty of Fort Smith, Arkansas; and Richard Shaw (USN) and his wife, Yoka, of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Grandchildren include: Naomi and Lydia Shaw of Spokane, Washington; Ali Razavi of Bethany; Cory and Carrie Miller of Poteau; Jackey Hardesty of Muldrow; Merry Ann Hardesty of Tulsa; and Vanessa, Kenshiro and Tomoko Shaw of Honolulu, Hawaii. Although she suffered for many years with a debilitating illness, Parkinson's disease, Donna loved life. In spite of her frailty, she managed to successfully raise her children and run her household. She enjoyed writing and used to submit stories to Redbook magazine. Her love for children was the basis for an ongoing life dream to open an orphanage one day. Donna never lost her sweet and caring approach to life. Now we can envision her surrounded by Heaven's children. Mother, we will sorely miss you. But as you taught us "There is a time to mourn and a time to dance" for "Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings as eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not be faint." (Isaiah 40:31) Rest in Peace, dear Mother. To be your daughter is the greatest gift of love, insight, courage and generosity! Eternally your daughter, Jen Shaw Bethany, Oklahoma There will be no local services.
