Donald Frederick Wensauer passed peacefully from the company of family into the waiting arms of his Lord and Savior on July 18, 2009. He was 84. He leaves behind, though only for a while, his loving wife of 63 years, Mary; three children: Linda Holtzclaw, Brent Wensauer and wife Kathy, and Lisa Snow and husband Bobby; brothers George and Blaine; a sister, Vivian; as well as 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lola, and siblings Doyle and Peggy. Born on November 6, 1924 in Shamrock, OK, he lived most of his life in Oklahoma City, where he worked at OG&E and built a real estate investment business with his son. He served his country in the army in WWII. He traveled and scuba-dived. But his passion was leading his family by example in serving God and helping others. He did missionary work, including multiple trips to Mexico and Africa. Friends, who knew him as Papa Don, and strangers alike were blessed with gifts of books and CDs as he shared his faith. He especially loved children, teaching Sunday school and faithfully gathering them to take to church each Sunday at an age when others would have been content to retire. He was one of those rare individuals of whom it can truly be said that the closer you got, the better he looked. Since his death, we have heard from many followers of Christ who credit their own faith to his influence. With his passing, heaven has called home one of its champions and we have lost our hero. A celebration of his life will be held at Harvest Church, 4019 S. Penn, Okla. City at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 23, followed by a graveside service at Rose Hill Burial Park.
