Our loving father, Donald Theodore Smaistrla, 79, passed away on November 29, 2020. He was born on July 14, 1941 in East Bernard, Texas. He fought a long, hard battle with cancer, but he was determined to live life to the fullest. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Don managed his illness with strength and grace. His optimistic outlook on life kept him going despite many setbacks.
Don attended school in East Bernard, Texas. Upon leaving school, he enlisted in the Army and served a great deal of time in Germany. He then attended Oklahoma State University, graduating with an Associates Degree in Police Science and served 20 years as a police officer with the Oklahoma City Police Department. After retiring, he started his own business, Smaistrla Security Services, installing alarms in the community. Donald had a service driven personality. He would always place his own plans aside if he knew others needed assistance.
Donald was a spiritual and devoted member of the Windsor Hills Baptist Church / Higher Plain Baptist Church. He spent several years teaching Sunday school, providing transportation for youth, and volunteered security services for the church. He will always be known as a devout Christian who lived his life serving the Lord.
He is survived by his daughter, Laura Winter (Joseph) of Wayne, OK; son, John Smaistrla (Jill) of Henderson, NV; son-in-law, Steve Parker of Yukon, OK; grandchildren, Timothy, Courtney, Renee, Rebecca, Joshua, Brody, Barrett, and Blakely.
