Donald E. Riggs, at the age of 87, on Sunday afternoon March 14, 2010, peacefully passed to join his wife and spend an eternity in the light of his Heavenly Father.
Don was born the eldest of two children in Bethany, OK, on December 11, 1922 to Elvis and Merle Barker Riggs. Don met his wife Lynette while attending Bethany Peniel College and was married on July 2, 1942 in Scottsville, TX. They lived in Bethany, OK for most of their 67 years of marriage.
Don was a member of the 3rd Infantry Division, 30th Regiment, 3rd Battalion and fought in France, Austria, and Germany during the 2nd World War. Later Don joined HHC, 95th Division Army Reserve where he retired as Sergeant Major. As a civilian, Don worked as a plasterer and received a 60 year membership card from the Operative Plaster and Cement Masons Local 518 AFL/CIO.
Don was active in the lives of his children and grandchildren and was a member of the Bethany First Church of the Nazarene since childhood. Don is survived by his 3 children, Phoebe Riggs Key and her husband Tandy Key, Donald E Riggs Jr. and wife Genie Riggs, and Michael A. Riggs and his wife Bambi Riggs, 9 grandchildren, Bob Mohler, Angela Reynolds, Teddy Smith, Farah Roy, Jennifer Fuston, Jason Riggs, Michael Riggs Jr., Gina Simon, Donald Riggs lll, their spouses and 14 grandchildren. Don was deeply proud of his family. The family will greet friends during visitation on Wednesday, March 17th between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service, 3925 N. Asbury . The funeral will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 18 at the Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, 6789 NW 39th Expressway in Bethany with interment following at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 8701 NW Expressway.
