Donald Ray
Nickel
Aug 5, 1938 — Jun 1, 2025
Don Nickel, 86, went to be with the lord on Sunday, June 1st in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was born August 5th, 1938 to Cornelius and Kathryn Baergen-Nickel in Corn, Oklahoma.
Don met the love of his life Mary Lou Janzen and married her on August 26th, 1960 in Enid, Oklahoma.
Don grew up farming and did this for the first 10 years of their marriage, he stopped farming and became a grain elevator manager in Caney, Kansas. After a few years of this he decided he needed a challenge and started a steel framed construction business in 1978. Don built buildings all across the state of Oklahoma till he retired in 2018. During his younger years he was a proud member of the United States Air Force Reserve.
Don was a collector of metal die cast John Deere Tractors. He eventually had 60 of them sitting on shelves in his office. He once said he collected them because he didn't have a big enough yard to park the full-size ones. He also loved family gatherings and since his children and their families lived close, he always found a reason to have everyone over for food and conversation.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 55 years, Mary Nickel, his brothers Elmer, and Laverne, and his sister Viola.
He is survived by his son, Mark Nickel, his daughters, Cheryl Nickel and Jennifer Nickel-Ulmer, granddaughter's Kathy Nickel-Russel, Harley Nickel, and Amber Ulmer, grandson PJ Ulmer, great granddaughter Heather Russel, daughter in-law Christina Thompson-Nickel, son in-law James Ulmer, granddaughter in-law Haley Gebeaur-Ulmer, grandson in-law Sean Russel, and brothers Richard and Glenn. He is already, and will be, greatly missed.
