Obituary

Donald Keith Maddox was born on December 22, 1937, in Hennessey, Oklahoma, and died on November 24, 2019, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. When Don was in 5th grade, he moved with his parents, Keith and Christine Maddox, and his younger brother, Kenny, to a house on the southeast corner of 46th and College in Bethany, Oklahoma. Don continued to spend summers on the farm in Hennessey with his grandparents, Ott and Garnet Maddox. Don bought his first gun for hunting with money that he saved from his summer work on the farm. After moving, Don attended Bethany Public Schools. He played football and ran track, and graduated from Bethany High School in 1955. He attended Bethany Peniel College (now Southern Nazarene University), where he met Delores Peterson, who was from Omaha, Nebraska. They married on August 4, 1956, at Omaha First Church of the Nazarene, and spent the first year of their married life in Omaha. They then returned to Bethany, where Don and Delores had two daughters. In December 1958, Don began working as a machinist at Western Electric, where he continued to work until he retired after 42 years. Don and Delores continued to live in Bethany until they moved to Epworth Villa in Oklahoma City. During most of his life, Don was an active member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, where he served as a youth sponsor and an usher. Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a consistent provider for his family. He loved hunting, fishing and football, and rooted for the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Oklahoma Sooners (rooting for the former when the two teams played each other). For years, Don refereed high school football and also umpired baseball games. Don was Papa to his six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, and all of them knew that Papa loved each of them with all of his heart. He and Delores were always ready to have the grandchildren come over and just spend time together. Don also made sure that each of his grandchildren learned to shoot. Throughout his life, even as his memory was failing him due to Alzheimers, Don always enjoyed bringing a smile to the face of those he was with. Don is survived by his wife of 63 years, Delores Maddox, his two daughters, Debbie Lindquist (and her husband, Philip) and Diana Green (and her husband, Mart). He is also survived by his six grandchildren and their families, who are: Brent Green, his wife, Trang, and their daughters, Winter and Haven; Daniel Lindquist; Tyler Green, his wife, Kristin, and their children, Asher, Isla, Juniper, and Jed; Scott Green, his wife, Taylor, and their children, Creed, Harper, and McCoy; Laura Lindquist Stanley and her husband, Jerod; and Amy Green Fallon, her husband, Joe, and their children, Cooper and Kinsley. He is also survived by his brother, Kenny Maddox (Virginia), his sister-in-law, Josephine Kaufman (Robert), numerous nieces and nephews, and other extended family. Viewing will be Tuesday, 9am-9pm, with family present from 5-7pm at Mercer-Adams. His funeral service will be at Mercer-Adams Chapel in Bethany at 2:00pm on Wednesday, November 27.
