Donald Gene Cannon was born on June 15, 1932 in Guymon, Oklahoma to Gardner aka "Hank" and Leta Cannon. He was the middle of three children. He was preceded by his wife, Annetta Bullard Cannon, son, Richard Loyd Cannon, and daughter, Marcia Cannon and great grandson, Caleb Scheiern. He is survived by two sisters, Twila Suttle and Corinne Higgins, two children, Rebecca Creacy and Skip Cannon, two daughter-in-laws, Cindy Cannon and Sue Cannon, 6 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. He was married to his best friend and bride on June 26, 1952 after his appointment into the United States Navy on April 30, 1952. He received an honorable discharge on October 9, 1952 to return to help at the family farm after his father suffered from an illness. Upon moving back to Guymon, Oklahoma, his wife enrolled their children in a vacation bible school at the local Nazarene Church. Subsequently, she continued attending the church and participating in various events. Don was initially not interested in attending but after the persistence of Ann to attend, he eventually joined the rest of the family. Not long after, he made his commitment to make Jesus his Lord. He soon became the youth pastor and Sunday School Superintendent. Upon having the same dream three nights in a row in which Jesus asked him to feed His sheep, he declared that he was to enter the ministry as a church pastor. He packed up the family and headed to Bethany Nazarene College in the Summer of 1962. He and Ann worked full time while he attended school full time. He graduated and was ordained in May of 1966 and became pastor of his first appointment at the Hamlet Church of the Nazarene in Amarillo, Texas. Subsequent churches were located in Texas, Kansas, and New Mexico. He retired after 25 years of service to become the primary and full-time caretaker of his bride who was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy. Upon her departure to heaven, he enjoyed preaching at various churches and spending time with family. At the age of 76, he climbed a mountain with his son - elevation 11,500 feet. It was not until just before his 83rd birthday that his health begin to decline and with the mercy of God he joined his bride again on July 29, 2015. What a joyous occasion it must be for him to receive his final reward, a proclamation we all anticipate, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
