Obituary

Donald S. Arnold of Bethany, Oklahoma, died peacefully in his sleep on November 29th having had time together with his family at Thanksgiving. He had recently celebrated his 90th birthday. He joins his beloved wife, Eleanor, who passed away five years ago. Born in Stow Township, Ohio, Don was the oldest of seven children of Elton and Esther Arnold. He was devoted to and is well loved by his family of six children, 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and the in-laws who have become such a part of his family. Selfless, generous, respectful, and always exuding a quiet class, Dons life continues to provide a role model to his family, as well to others who knew him. He grew up in northern Ohio during the depression and studied at The Ohio State University under scholarships. Graduating in 1942, Don served in the Aleutians and in Europe in World War II, marrying Eleanor while on leave in 1944. He returned to The Ohio State University to earn a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, and his love of learning continued throughout his life. Dons career focused on chemical engineering research, working for American Potash/Kerr-McGee in Nevada, California (Trona and Los Angeles) and Oklahoma. Even after retirement, he remained active in the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the American Chemical Society, and was a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church of Bethany. Don believed in ones responsibility to pass it on whether it be knowledge, skills, or support of others. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Donald and Eleanor Arnold to: Presbyterian Urban Mission, 3737 N. Portland Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73112.
