Obituary

Dominic Gianfilippo, age 91, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2016. He was born to John and Marietta Gianfilippo, immigrants from Sicily, on October 30, 1924 in Oklahoma City, OK. He graduated from Central High School in June, 1943. Dominic was a WWII veteran. He joined the Army Air Force ten days after graduation on June 17, 1943. He was based in England and served in the Northern France, Ardennes and Rhineland Campaigns as a B17 Top Turret Gunner and Flight Engineer. He flew 35 successful combat missions in the European Theater. He earned a European African Middle Eastern service medal with three bronze battle stars, and an Air medal with five oak leaf clusters. He was separated from service on October 17, 1945. He retired from Tinker A.F.B. on May 15, 1975, after 30 years of service as a quality control inspector.Dominic was a loving husband and father. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, traveling, hunting, fishing and watching western and war movies. Dominic met his devoted wife, Evelyn Louise Cogburn, on a blind date in 1950 and they were married on April 12, 1952, in Oklahoma City. They were married for 64 years and had four children together. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, their daughter Debbie Gutowsky and her husband Jerry of Helena, MT, son Gary Gianfilippo and his wife Sherril of Piedmont, OK, son Jerry Gianfilippo of Plano, TX, and daughter Gina Schmidt and her husband Scott of Atlanta, GA. He is survived by ten grandchildren, Heather Capri, Kristin Gutowsky, Trevor Gianfilippo, Laura Gianfilippo, Kinsey Thomas, Kamber Gianfilippo, Kalie Gianfilippo, Halie Schmidt, Sicelia Schmidt and Tyler Schmidt, and four great grandchildren Ava, Porter and Gracyn Capri, and Gianna Gutowsky. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Marietta Gianfilippo, and brothers John Jr. and Sam Gianfilippo.
