Dixie
Cox
Apr 28, 1939 — Sep 15, 2026
Dixie Cox, 87, passed away on September 15, 2026, in Edmond, Oklahoma. She was born on April 28, 1939, to Buford Ingram and Mary Nelma (Camfield) Ingram in Oklahoma City. She married the love of her life, Alroy Cox on June 5, 1959, in her parents' home in Bethany, OK. Throughout her life, Dixie worked as a registered nurse, a teacher in the Oklahoma education system, and as a realtor.
Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, Buford and Mary Nelma Ingram; her loving husband of 65 years, Alroy Cox Jr.; her brother, Jerry Ingram; and her brother- in-law, Don McWhinney.
She is survived by daughter, April Cox Richards; son, Cameron Cox; granddaughter, Ali Morris and husband TJ Morris; grandson Cale Richards; two great-granddaughters, Selah June Morris and Jubilee Kate Morris; sister, Debi Carpenter and husband Rick Carpenter; 5 nieces, Kim Jameson, Lezli Gibson, Lisa Schneider, Brooke Dean, and Kristie Rosenthal; many grandnieces and nephews; her sister-in-law, Lillie McWhinney and her sons Jimmy McWhinney, John McWhinney and his husband Paul Weston; her brother-in-law, Richard Cox and wife Mary Jane Cox and their daughter, Jill Cox.
Dixie was a woman committed to her family, especially her husband, Roy. She was devoted to helping others her whole life. She went to Bethany Public Schools and graduated in 1957. She then attended a few years of college before meeting the love of her life. After having her two children, she finished college and went on to receive her master's degree in education.
Coming from a family of builders and developers, Dixie had a natural inclination to the real estate business which lead her to a successful career at Keller Williams. And if that wasn't enough, she went back to school in her 60's to get a nursing degree. She did so with grit and determination not only to help others, but to help herself professionally and personally. At the end of her working career, she dedicated her life to taking care of an individual with special needs. That family became part of her family.
Throughout her long-lived life, she enjoyed being with her husband and children, swimming almost daily, playing tennis, traveling, going to movies with the family, and shopping (especially QVC and the HSN in her later years). Dixie was musically inclined and played many different instruments including the organ and piano. She also loved to sing to her children and grandchildren, raising them on show tunes, jazz, and hymns.
Dixie loved Jesus and relied on her faith on a daily basis. She enjoyed reading the Bible and was a spiritual leader of the family. Her favorite Bible verse was Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you" declares the Lord, "Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future."
We couldn't go without saying that Dixie loved her best friend, Linda, whom she had a beautiful lifelong relationship with. There was an unbreakable bond between these women, who empowered each other to be confident and brave.
That's a lot, but it's just a glimpse into the rich, meaningful and purpose-filled life that Dixie was committed to living. Though she had a soft and gentle spirit, her impact was great.
