Obituary

Delores Ann Peterson Maddox was born on June 7, 1937, in Shenandoah, Page County, Iowa, and died on September 10, 2024, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. When Delores was a toddler, she moved to Omaha, Nebraska with her parents, Luther and Hollis (Craig) Peterson, older brother, Eugene "Pete," and older sister, Josephine. Shortly thereafter, Delores' father died, in 1941. Delores' mother later married Roy Eugene Maxfield. Roy died in 1959 and Hollis died in 1979.

Delores attended Omaha Public Schools. She was twirler in high school. Invited to church by a friend, she became a Christian her senior year in high school and joined Central Church of the Nazarene, which led to dramatic changes in her life. After graduating from high school in 1955, she went to the regional college for her new denomination, Bethany Nazarene College (now Southern Nazarene University), in Bethany, Oklahoma. There she met Donald Maddox, who was from Bethany. They married on August 4, 1956, at Central Church of the Nazarene in Omaha and spent the first year of their married life in Omaha. They then returned to Bethany, where Delores and Don had two daughters. Delores and Don continued to live in Bethany, always within three miles of the Nazarene college campus, until they moved to Epworth Villa in Oklahoma City. Don died on November 24, 2019, 63 years after they were married.

When they returned to Bethany, Delores and Don attended Meridian Park and then Lakeview Park Churches of the Nazarene. But during most of their lives, Delores and Don were active members of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, where she sang in the choir and served with Don as youth sponsors when their daughters were teens.

Delores was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and always kept a comfortable home for her family. She worked as a preschool and then kindergarten teacher, and later a school secretary and finally as secretary for the Bethany Chamber of Commerce. She loved reading and studying her Bible and spending time with her family.

Delores was Nana/Grandma to her six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, and all of them knew that Nana/Grandma loved each of them with all of her heart. She and Don were always ready to have the grandchildren come over and just spend time together.

Delores is survived by her two daughters, Debbie Lindquist (and her husband, Philip) and Diana Green (and her husband, Mart). She is also survived by her six grandchildren and their families, Brent Green, his wife, Trang, and their daughters, Winter and Haven; Daniel Lindquist; Tyler Green, his wife, Kristin, and their children, Asher, Isla, Juniper, Jed, and Greyson; Scott Green and his children, Harper and McCoy; Laura Lindquist Stanley and her husband, Jerod, and their daughter, Cassandra; and Amy Green Fallon, her husband, Joe, and their children, Cooper, Kinsley, Cade, and Karis. She is also survived by her sister, Josephine Kaufman and her husband, Robert; her brother-in-law, Kenny Maddox and his wife, Virginia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and other extended family members.

Viewing will be on Sunday, September 15, from 11am to 8pm at Mercer-Adams Chapel in Bethany, with the family present from 6pm to 8pm. Her funeral service will also be held at Mercer-Adams Chapel, at 10:00 am on Monday, September 16. Interment will be immediately after the service, where she will be buried next to her dear husband, Don, in Bethany Cemetery.
