Born on June 21st, 1934 to Thresia Ehrlich Schoenhals Slovacek and Henry Schoenhals both of whom have preceded her in death, Delores Dell aka Dee (as she was lovingly known) went to sleep in Jesus this past Friday, May 28th at the home she shared with her son(s) in Oklahoma City. Born and raised in Shattuck, Oklahoma, she met and married the man of her dreams Robert Stanley Islas. They moved to Farmington, New Mexico where he preceded her in death in 1961. Shortly after, she moved back to Shattuck, Oklahoma to raise her 3 children, attend LPN school and work at Newman Memorial Hospital as an LPN in the ER, on the floor, in ICU, in the Maternity ward and lastly as a Recovery room nurse. In 1990, she moved to Oklahoma City to work in the field of Accounting as an office/file clerk and retired in 2005. Those who knew her as a nurse still speak so fondly of the great compassion with which she cared for them and those who knew her in the office remember her for her joyful and ornery spirit always willing to help out where ever and whenever possible. She attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Shattuck and Edmond, Oklahoma over the course of her years and received Jesus Christ as her personal Savior for whom she awaits on the Great Resurrection morning! She left behind so many loved ones who will sorely miss her dear presence on this Earth. Among those who will, no doubt, miss her most are her three children her oldest daughter - Sandra (Islas) Overton of Woodward, Oklahoma, Russ Islas who kindly & lovingly cared for her in his home here in Oklahoma City, and her youngest daughter, Terri (Islas) Black Motsenbocker. In addition, to these were her son(s)-in-law Larry Overton, Gary Sander and DWayne Motsenbocker. Her grandchildren and their families include: Robert Black, his wife Jami and their children Hanna and Jude of Oklahoma City, Stephenie (Overton) Fish, her husband Dr. David Ryan Fish and their son Charlie of Moore, Kassie (Black) Joslin, her husband Jerad Joslin and their children Jeren Daniel & Jami Dell of Miami, Oklahoma, Lee Overton of Woodward, Oklahoma and Danny Black of Oklahoma City. In addition, two sisters who were dear to her heart: Alvera Hill of Amarillo Texas and Ann Gordanier of Cortez Colorado. She loved greatly & was greatly loved. We will miss you, mom! A Memorial Service will be held for her 2pm Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at the Edmond Seventh Day Adventist Church at 13812 Scott Street in Edmond, Oklahoma. To honor her wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Lung Association.
