Deborah Kaye Gandy served her Heavenly Father throughout her life, praising and singing to her Lord and Savior. Debbis voice was powerful and the emotion with which she sang touched many hearts. Debbi loved Everett, her husband of 40 years, and served him and her family and friends. She and Everett traveled around the country working together and share many wonderful memories from their time together on the road.
Debbi grew up on the mission field in Trinidad with her parents and siblings until she was 17 years old. The family returned to Bethany, and she completed high school and college in Bethany, Oklahoma. After graduation, Debbi worked for Tenneco for several years before she felt called to be an elementary teacher.
Debbi returned to college to get her masters degree in early childhood development. Upon completion of her degree, she taught in the Mustang school district. Debbi enjoyed teaching because she had a love for children and she taught with passion, enriching the lives of her students. Debbi retired in 2016, but continued to reach kids by becoming a reading tutor after retirement.
Debbi also loved teaching the truth of Gods Word. She touched many lives because of her relationship with Jesus. She loved to write in her journal and had a daily devotion with God, and she continually read books on faith, prayer, grace, and the Love of God. He has been by her side throughout her life, and Debbi had an amazing faith that never failed her. She was also courageous about talking to people about the Lord. Her greatest desire was to please Him and even though these past six months was unsettling for all of us, Debbi still maintained her faith and walk with God.
As a faithful friend, Debbi spoke the truth in love and encouraged her friends with scripture and prayer, spending unlimited time to help them. Debbis love was unconditional and her ability to forgive was never ending. No matter the situation, Debbi stood by her friends in love and truth. Debbi was generous to a fault and was obedient to all God told her to do for her church and friends. She was emphatic about blessing her friends in ways that were meaningful to them. She considered prayerfully all that God told her to do, and she did it without hesitation. Debbi gave me one of her personal Bibles with all of her notations and blessings. It is a piece of Debbis life and she trusted me with it. I will treasure that Bible as long as there in breath in my body.
Debbi was a unique individual and persevered through difficult times throughout her ministry and life, clinging to the Word of God and knowing that the Word and Jesus was her lifeline. She knew in her heart of hearts that God would never fail her. And today we are talking about Debbis wonderful life and the example she set to follow Jesus in spite of what life brings. Debbi would want everyone listening to know Christ and His love for them, regardless of their situation.
We heard Debbi say many times through out her illness that the desire of her heart was to be with Jesus. God gave Debbi the desire of her heart and took her home to be with him on October 31, 2020. She died peacefully in her sleep and woke up in the presence of God.
Debbi was preceded in death by her parents, Wes and Model Harmon. She is survived by Everett Gandy, her husband of 40 years and his children and grandchildren, her brothers, Gary and Jim, her sister-in-laws, Tina and Kathy, and nieces, Tiffinee, Brittinee and Rachel. Debbi has many other loved ones and friends who cherished her.
