Our loving Angel, Davion Koehler-Rucker, left his family to find rest in the arms of God late Sunday night. Davion came to us suddenly and unexpectedly March 12, 2008, barely hanging on to life - a life for which both he and his mother so desperately fought. Their victory over death was won with help from Jessica Moates, whose professional training and loving care enabled her to take quick and correct action, delivering mother to Baptist Medical Center. The BMC staff took up the battle and victoriously delivered Davion through a short but difficult procedure. The prayers had begun and continued without ceasing for Davion and his mother, Erin.
Family, friends and even some prayer warriors who are still unknown to family spent many hours praying for Davion's almost constant health issues. His first two months of life were spent in BMC NICU. After Davion's discharge from BMC, Erin chose to take him home to live with his family rather than accept the care available at The Children's Center. Erin soon learned she had chosen a huge task, but proved to be more than capable and provided an excellent home life and untiring attention to every detail required for his complex needs. God led Erin to doctors, nurses, other caregivers and healthcare facilities to continue the extraordinary life-saving care first given.
God blessed the family with loving and caring home care nurses. Maxim provided us with Tom Weimer, LPN first, then Sue Derrick, RN, who both supported Erin in her 24/7 care for Davion. Sue and Tom provided professional care for our precious baby. During the past year Tom showed a love for Davion that surpassed his professional responsibilities and brought him and his wife, Sue Weimer, into our hearts and family circle.
God had chosen the perfect family for Davion his mother, Erin Koehler, sister, Danielle Koehler and brother, Gavin Rucker. They devoted their lives to Davion and continued in their devotion until the night he slipped quietly from their care to go to a more permanent home in Heaven.
We are thankful for Davion, the precious gift God sent to us for a short 3 1/2 years. Our lives are forever blessed and changed by the influence of this silent, beautiful, strong, precious boy. The powerful impression made by his beautiful face, big brown eyes and long full eyelashes was breathtaking. One did not realize at first sight that his arms, legs and vocal abilities were not perfect by social standards. Those who took time to know Davion knew the true miracle of his birth, life and daily accomplishments that far exceeded expectations of our earthly understanding. God knew.
Davion is survived by his father, La Anderick Rucker, Sr. of Oklahoma City and presently residing in Louisiana; grandmother, Arvella Rucker of Oklahoma City; his mother, Erin Koehler, sister, Danielle Koehler and brother, Gavin Rucker, all of Bethany; his sister, LaAndreia of Oklahoma City; brother, LaAndrick Rucker, Jr. of Oklahoma City; grandmother, Kathy Brady of Warr Acres; grandfather, Tony Koehler, Jr. of Edmond, uncles, aunts, cousins and many family members and friends too numerous to name.
Special thanks to all the doctors, nurses and caregivers who assisted our family. May God continue to use you to bless other families as you have ours.
Services will be Monday, November 7, 2:00 p.m. at Mercer-Adams Chapel with interment in Bethany Cemetery.
