Obituary

David Earl Whittaker, 62, of Oklahoma City, OK, died Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Grace Living Center in Bethany, OK. Dave was born December 29, 1948 in Lake Charles, LA, the son of Emory and Ruby Whittaker. He served in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1973 and spent time aboard the USS Sample which was stationed in Pearl Harbor. In 1977, he graduated from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. He was employed by the US Government working for the Office of Thrift Supervision as a savings and loan examiner until his retirement in 2009. Dave was a member of the Bethany First Church of the Nazarene where he met his wife, Mary Froese, whom he married on December 9, 1989. Dave and Mary enjoyed shooting sporting clays, bicycling and vacationing with family and friends. They participated in many charity shooting and bicycling events. Dave was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and Oklahoma Rifle Association. Dave is survived by his wife, Mary, of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Emory Dean of Lake Charles, LA and Dwayne Francis and wife Dana of Baton Rouge, LA; two sisters, Kaylene Silvestri and husband Mark of Quincy, WA and Virginia Gail Carr and husband Tim of Coal Valley, IL; 17 nieces and nephews and 21 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emory and Ruby Whittaker. Memorials may be sent to Gideons International or Reaching Our City, Inc. (ROC) in care of the funeral home. Viewing will be held Sunday, October 23, 2011, from 1:00pm to 9:00pm, with family being present from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
