Obituary

David Paul Vaughn was surrounded by his wife and children when he went to be with God early Saturday morning, September 23, 2017. David was born at Norman Regional hospital on March 5, 1947 to Anna and Tom Vaughn. He began his education at Robin Hill Elementary School and then attended and graduated from Norman High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. While serving as a Marine he trained as a mechanic of F4 phantoms. After training, he was deployed to Vietnam. He served with pride and distinction and was very proud of his service and being a Marine. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. Upon finishing his tour of duty, he returned to Norman and went to work for Southwestern Bell. He began his career as a lineman and worked his way up through the ranks becoming a foreman and then a Second Line. He retired from Southwestern Bell, later AT&T, in 2001. Although he was retired, he continued to do contract work until his death. Even though David was born and raised Baptist, he became very active in the United Methodist Church, attending faithfully every Sunday. He was a dedicated leader holding many positions in the church, including head of both the Administrative Council and the Trustees. David married Glenna Cole on July 15, 1995. He was a devoted husband and loved Glenna with all his heart. They loved to do things together like traveling, going to the casino, and attending OU Womens Basketball games. For their 20th anniversary, they were able to make a lifelong dream come true by taking an Alaskan Cruise. Davids calm demeanor and laid-back attitude made him a friend to every person he ever met. Even the animals he encountered loved David. David was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Pete Laine; father-in-law, Gerald Main; brothers, Gilbert Vaughn and James Ralph Vaughn; and sister, Elnoria Meissner. He is survived by his wife, Glenna of Oklahoma City; mother-in-law, Glennda Main of Oklahoma City; brother, Lester (Tammy) Vaughn of Norman; sister, Helen Bledsoe of Burleson, TX; daughters, Jenny (Eric) McGuire of Moore and Jolennda (Issa) Cole of Oklahoma City; sons, Steven Vaughn of Moore, Terry (Chalinee) Cole of Oklahoma City, and Kevin (Heather) Cole of Sand Springs; grandsons, Dylan Cole, Nicholas Marek and Nathan Marek; granddaughters, Taylor Laughlin and Ellie McGuire; nieces and nephews, Phil and Linda Hughes, Clint and Kathy Hughes, Jeanne and Will King, Avis Ritchie, Mary and Paul Stidham, Mike and Mary Copeland, Gary Joe and Jannet Copeland, and many, many great-nieces and nephews; special friend, Marsha Davis; and many family and friends who loved him and will greatly miss him.Viewing will be Wednesday, 9am-9pm, with family present from 7-9pm at Mercer-Adams.
