David Sullivan went to be with the Lord on January 3, 2019. Born on June 26, 1958 to Jim and Arlene Sullivan, in Tucson, Arizona. He spent his early years growing up in Tucson along with his older brother, Randy and younger sister, Laurel.
David grew up loving the outdoors, hunting, fishing and baseball. He left Tucson, Arizona to attend Yavapai College in 1976 on a baseball scholarship. His freshman year at college they won the JUCO National Championship. He was highly recruited by Division I schools all over the country, but he chose to follow his Yavapai coach, Gary Ward, to Oklahoma State where his team was the start of a new baseball dynasty. David was drafted professionally by the Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, and Kansas City Royals, finally signing with the Houston Astros.
While attending OSU, David met the love of his life, Juliann, a very real case of love at first sight. They were together almost 41 years at the time of his death.
After leaving his baseball career, he became a Petroleum Geologist and started an independent Oil and Gas Company, BecSul Energy, with Benny Bechtol and Greg Bechtol.
David found true joy in his son, Justin and daughter, Sydni whom he loved wholeheartedly. He actively participated in coaching them in sports, but more importantly, he taught them the true meaning of a relationship with Christ and how to demonstrate that love to others.
David was an avid sportsman who was very passionate about bow elk hunting and fly fishing. He loved traveling with his family, especially to the mountains to experience the majesty of Gods creations.
David was very dedicated to the managing of the baseball foundation in his sons name, Justin Sullivan, A Life Worth Following. He was a humble man who would privately help those in need.
David passionately loved God and his family. He will be forever in our hearts.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00pm, Wednesday, January 9 at Surrey Hills Baptist Church, with interment in Resurrection Cemetery. Donations in memory of David can be made to A Life Worth Following Foundation at www.alifeworthfollowing.org or by mail at PO Box 6727, Moore, OK, 73153.
A letter from David's daughter, Sydni Chappell:
My sweet dad went to be with the Lord on January 3rd. We will miss him deeply but are incredibly thankful that he is in heaven with Justin and completely healed. His strength during his battle with cancer was a true testament to his character and left me in complete awe. Through this difficult journey, he was kindhearted, patient, gentle, thoughtful of others, humble, exemplified unwavering faith, and lived his life to the fullest. He was a gentle giant that loved my mom and our family in a way that I will be forever grateful.
In the midst of all of this he told me, "what kind of life is a life without hope" His hope was in the Lord and mine is more strengthened because of him.
A letter from long-time friend, Chris Wall
I do not always understand God's hand, but I am continually learning to trust His heart. Jesus prepared us for difficult times when He spoke the words recorded by John.
"I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world, you will have trouble, but take heart because I have overcome the world." John 16:33
On Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. at Surrey Hills Baptist Church in Yukon, Oklahoma, we will celebrate the life of David Sullivan.
I had the privilege of walking through life with this man. I watched him trust the Lord. I saw him persevere through trials. I met the disciples he inspired. I saw the people who heard the gospel through the work of his hands. And, I am a better man because I rubbed shoulders with David Sullivan.
God used David to show us what an Ambassador Baseball player looks like and now Ambassadors are reproducing all over the country.
I am thankful that David Sullivan was in my life. I am grieving today but I am overwhelmed with gratitude because Jesus overcame this world.
Do you know Jesus today All of us are mortal and all of us will one day walk through the door of death. You need Jesus more than you need the next breath you take. Come to Him today and begin the journey of forgiveness, hope and real life.
I will see you soon, my friend and I am thankful that you have been reunited with your Savior and your son.
