David Lee Moore, 69, of Oklahoma City, OK, passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2018, in Oklahoma City, following a short illness.
David was born in Okemah, Oklahoma, on May 4, 1949, to Betty Jo and Elvin Jesse Moore. David was preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife, Melvina; his sons, James Eric Moore (Brandie) and Joel David Moore (Kim) and his daughter, Leigh Nicole George (Luke); his sister, Sarah Ann Trower (Ernie); and his brother, Timothy Moore (Pam). He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren, Christian, Ben and Leslie Keenan, Elijah and Margaret Moore, and Cole, Madison, and Brody Moore.
David graduated from Bethany High School in 1968, where he played baseball, basketball, and football. He gave football game attendees many exciting moments to remember. On the field, he was known as Bethanys "Little Monster Man."
David married the love of his life, Melvina Nichols, in 1968, and on October 5th, they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. David joined the U.S. Navy in 1970 and spent 4+ years as a Hospital Corpsman, stationed in Orlando, North Chicago, Millington, TN, and Rota, Spain. He returned from the Navy and finished up his education at UCO, receiving a bachelors degree in Social Studies / H&PE with a minor in Safety, as well as a masters degree in Secondary Education. David took a detour before going into teaching and worked as a District Safety Manager and an Account Manager for Ryder Truck Rental in Lubbock, Texas.
In 1982, David began his teaching career at Big Pasture School in Randlett, Oklahoma. He then moved on to Fairfax, Oklahoma in 1985, where he would teach, coach and raise his family for 15 years. Davids football and baseball teams won many tournaments and awards, including the 1986 Class A Football State Championship. He completed his teaching career with Oklahoma City Public Schools. As a teacher and coach, he positively influenced many young athletes and students.
David will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know him. He will be interred in the National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma, on Friday, September 28th, 2018, at 10:00 a.m., and later in the day, a Memorial Service will be held at Mercer Adams Chapel at 2:00 p.m.
