Obituary

After a hard fought and courageous battle with cancer, David Long left his temporary home on this earth, to go be with the Lord in his permanent home, the kingdom of heaven on April 10, 2021. He was born in Oklahoma City on September 22, 1970, to James and Madalyn Long. David had two wonderful sons, Andrew and Aaron Long. On June 11, 2016 he married the love of his life, Julia Long, and gained two stepchildren whom he loved dearly: Laura and Paul Ridlon. David was a 1988 graduate of Putnam City High School, and a 1991 graduate of SNU, obtaining his Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries. David enjoyed a successful career as an actuary and executive. He particularly enjoyed teaching, as well as learning from his employees and colleagues. No task was ever too much for David. If someone needed a hand, David was there with two. He always went above and beyond and took pride in making others happy; truly exemplifying what it meant to be a man of God. A humble servant of the Lord is what he was. A guardian angel watching over us with that priceless smile is what he is. David was thankful for his upbringing and baptism in the Nazarene church. His father taught him the importance of Gods word and of seeking the direction of the Holy Spirit. In 2016, David joined the Catholic church, delving into its rich theological history. David appreciated the role that both faiths played in his life. David was known for his kindness, intelligence, patience, sense of humor, and his love of God. Throughout his battle with cancer, he maintained an unwavering sense of joy and positivity. He showed the same unconditional love to his children that his parents showed him. David was an incredible influence and loving presence for so many. David was preceded in death by his father, James Elmer Long. Survivors include wife, Julia Elaine Long; mother, Madalyn Shannon Long; and children: Andrew and Kylie Long, Aaron Long, Laura Ridlon, and Paul Ridlon, all of Oklahoma; and others to include nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends. He is greatly missed by all. Memorial services will be Thursday, April 15 at 2:00pm at Mercer-Adams Chapel with a reception afterwards. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of David Long, to the St. John Catholic Student Centers capital campaign at 201 N Knoblock, Stillwater OK - or donate online at buildingsaints.com.
