David Wayne
Hinshaw
Jun 30, 1962 — Apr 4, 2026
David Wayne Hinshaw, 63, passed away on April 4, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born June 30, 1962, to Lester Carl (Carl) and Ola Rae (Peggy) Hinshaw in Fukuoka, Japan. He came from a military family background and got to experience many parts of the world. His family origins are in North Carolina and Virginia. He loved spending time with his many cousins, uncles, aunts, brothers and sisters while living in Virginia in his youth.
Dave was an avid and exceptional baseball player starting at a very young age and even played in Waikiki, Hawaii and everywhere he lived during his childhood. He went to Carl Albert High School in Midwest City, Oklahoma where he was the star pitcher and received an award for "Best Pitcher" in the state in 1980 of his senior year. This is where his love of coaching came from as well as his hard work ethic.
Dave worked at Cato Oil & Grease, Tronox & Kerr McGee for 26 years, then Continental Resources for 4 years, Dolese Brothers for 4 years and retired from Maxcess just 4 short months ago. Most of his career was spent as the Senior Director of IT. Dave was an exceptional leader everywhere he worked and every one of his co-workers meant something to him.
Dave married Charla (Charlie) Louise Hinshaw on December 17, 1989, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They were married for almost 37 years. Dave was a very caring husband who always put his wife and children first. He made sure that we never went without anything. A special time of year was always Christmas Eve at our house. He would have the kids sit on his lap and read The Night Before Christmas to them and put out milk and cookies for Santa. He also enjoyed the 4th of July where we as a family would go to Lake Eufaula and set off fireworks at night and fish or ski during the day. Dave was my best friend, soul mate and the absolute love of my life, and the best thing that ever happened to me. We truly loved each other, and I wish that we would have had more time together. He touched the lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing him. His selflessness, warmth, and generous spirit will be remembered forever. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion that lives on in all of us.
Dave was so very proud of the birth of his first child, Caleb. He could not wait to be a father. Dave would take Caleb for French fries and drive him around the scenic roads every Saturday morning when he was a toddler, and this became their weekly ritual. He loved carrying him on his shoulders everywhere he went. He loved watching him water ski at Lake Eufaula and throwing him and his sister in the air on an inner tube until everyone had their fill of fun for the day. Watching and coaching Caleb in baseball, starting at the age of 5, was one of his biggest joys and was one of his best memories.
Dave's daughter, Kaylin, absolutely loved and adored him and will always cherish every moment that she got to spend with him. She would sneak into the living room constantly to cuddle up on the couch and watch TV with him past her bedtime. At one point she watched too much Star Wars when she was younger and when Dave went to pick her up, she yelled "You're not my father, Darth Vader is." Ever since then, he has collected Star Wars memorabilia. Coaching and watching Kaylin pitch in softball was another big part of his life with his daughter. Kaylin wishes to express the following: "He brought so much love and joy to my life and was always there for me no matter what. He is forever the best dad I could have ever asked for and my hero. If I could, I would live my entire childhood again just to do it all again with him. He is very loved and will be sorely missed until I see him again one day. I love you with everything I have, Dad."
You never saw Dave outside without a giant smile on his face and being at peace with nature. He had a huge love for fishing whether he caught anything or not, and of watching the stars in the night sky with his telescope that he cherished in his free time. Dave took pride in coaching both of his children in baseball and softball for over 20 years. He loved being a mentor not only to kids for sports, but also throughout his entire work career to all his colleagues. You wanted Dave as a mentor because not only were you his colleague, but you became his friend. He was there to ask you how your family was, how your day was going, or whatever you needed or wanted to talk about that day. Most days you could catch him talking about his love of woodworking, barbequing, and sitting on the back porch in his favorite rocking chair holding his dog, Jax. He was an amazing father who took pride in taking care of his family no matter what it took. He spoiled his wife and kids and spent a tremendous amount of time with his kids for sports and family time at the lake. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends forever. I can't even put into words how amazing of a man he truly was.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Ola Rae; and brother, Mark Hinshaw.
He is survived by his wife, Charla Hinshaw; son, Caleb Hinshaw; daughter, Kaylin Hinshaw; three grandchildren; sister, Rene' Zimmerman; sister, LeeAnn Cockerham; and brother, Hank Hinshaw. He will be greatly missed by all.
