David "Dave" Eugene O'Bannon, 65, passed away on March 21, 2024 at his home in Yukon, OK surrounded by family. He was born September 17, 1958 to Mel and Lena (Green) O'Bannon in St. Louis, MO. Dave graduated from Putnam City West H.S. in 1977 and Bethany Nazarene College (now Southern Nazarene University) in 1981. He went on to pursue a Master's degree in Business and graduated from Oklahoma City University in 1987 and a Master's in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma in 1989.
Dave served as Mayor of the City of Yukon in the early 1990's, where he established a sister city with Krnov, Czech Republic (then Czechoslovakia) and named Garth Brooks Blvd. He was a marketing professor at Southern Nazarene University and retired in 2020. Before his professorship, he worked in IT Consulting at Unisys and Oracle. He was a longtime active member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, serving as a board member, teacher of the Circle of Friends Sunday School class, and various other volunteer capacities, including leading the Board of Trustees for the McGrady Foundation. He enjoyed all sports, particularly golf. As a proud dad, Dave enjoyed going to his sons' sporting events and eating breakfast together. He was a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Especially near and dear to Dave's heart was his precious granddaughter, Mila.
Dave was preceded in death by his mother, Lena O'Bannon. He is survived by his sons, Jake (Maïa) O'Bannon and Sam (Taylor) O'Bannon; father, Mel (Hazel) O'Bannon; brother, Tom (Don) O'Bannon; granddaughter, Mila O'Bannon; Cheryl, mother of his children, married in 1982 and were together for 39 years; and a host of extended family members and friends.
Viewing at Mercer-Adams will be Tuesday, 9am-8pm with family present from 5-7pm. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 27 at 11:00am at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene.
