David Colin Buckles, age 38, passed away at his home in Norman, OK, on March 12, 2019. He came into this world on November 16, 1980, at the Wright-Patterson AFB hospital in Dayton, OH, the first child of Dru and Ward Buckles. Shortly after, the family moved to Oklahoma, where a sister and brother were born. The now five-member Buckles family then moved to Maryland and finally back to Ohio where David graduated from Centerville H.S. in 1998.
Growing up, David was very active in Boy Scouts and was proud to have earned the rank of Eagle Scout. While in high school he played clarinet in the nationally-ranked Centerville H.S. marching band and was a National Merit Scholar finalist. He also worked at a local airport to pay for flying lessons and obtained his private pilots license before graduating from high school.
David then attended the University of Oklahoma where he graduated with a bachelors degree in Aviation Management, earning a commercial pilots license with multi-engine, instrument, and flight instructor ratings. He loved flying and was a gifted pilot. Later, while working full-time, he attended Oklahoma City University's College of Law at night and graduated with a Juris Doctor degree.
David loved all animals, especially his rescue dog, Indy, and cat, Sophie. He also liked fly fishing, working on classic British sports cars, and music of all kinds, particularly jazz. While in Boy Scouts his scoutmaster insisted that the boys learn to cook, and David's enjoyment of cooking continued as an adult. He had a huge heart and would help anyone who needed it at the drop of a hat.
He is survived by his beloved son, Joseph (Joey) Davis-Buckles (11) of Deer Creek, OK; his parents, Dru and Ward Buckles of Centerville, OH; a sister, Margaret; a brother, Gregory Buckles; and his many friends. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Services will be held 2 pm, Friday, March 22 at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, in Oklahoma City. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations in David's name be given to Together We Rise, a foundation that aids foster children, https://www.togetherwerise.org/donate/ or the Bella Foundation, a local organization that assists in payment for veterinary services for the elderly, https://thebellafoundation.org/
