Obituary

Darrel Lee Fales, 61, departed this life for Heaven unexpectedly October 18, 2008, while at sea on a Mediterranean cruise touring Biblical sites. Darrel was born January 29, 1947 to Floyd and Mary (Brown) Fales in Enid, Oklahoma and graduated from Enid High School in 1965. He attended Oklahoma State University obtaining a degree in Business in 1970. In July, 1970, he began his 37-year career with the Hertz Corporation spending the first eight months in New York City while the Hertz Data Center was constructed in Oklahoma City. He retired May 1, 2007. Despite struggling over 40 years with ankylosing spondylitis, his gentle spirit and positive attitude allowed him to approach each day with anticipation of what it may bring rather than a day only to be endured due to his medical limitations. He enjoyed all sports, especially the OSU Cowboys and auto racing; photography; traveling; walking his dog at Eldon Lyon Park and M & Ms. Darrel married Kathy Carter August 24, 1996 and she preceded him in death November 23, 2000. Those left to mourn his loss include sister & husband, Donna & Bob Lamberti of Oklahoma City; brother & wife, Dan & Joyce Fales of Kremlin, Oklahoma; nieces, Abby Lamberti of Tulsa and Robin Bailey of Irving, Texas; nephew, Robbie Bailey of Kremlin, Oklahoma; and a bonus brother, James L. Falkner, Jr. & wife Cathy and family of Bethany. Also surviving are Kathys children, Ron Carter of Barboursville, West Virginia, Todd & Karlie Carter of Edmond, Nikki & Mark Hybers of Yukon; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson; as well as many dear and devoted friends from his church and Hertz families. Darrel was a member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, Heart to Heart Sunday School Class, OSU Alumni Association, Posse Club, and the Mustang Club. Darrels faith enabled him to survive illness and loss yet live joyfully in each day. He will forever be in the hearts of us who admired his kindness and courage. A celebration of Darrels life will be held Saturday, October 25, 2:00 p.m. at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene. Memorials may be made to: Tulakes Community Church, PO Box 22382, Oklahoma City, OK 73121.
