Daniel M. Briggs, 83, passed away on March 17, 2010. Danny was born in Bethany on May 30, 1926. He raised his family in Warr Acres and lived for the last several years at his dream house at Lake Eufaula where he was able to pursue his lifelong love of fishing. Danny graduated from Putnam City High School, then served in the Army in occupied Japan and was a Marine in the Korean War, where he was one of the Chosin Few and where he received the Purple Heart. Danny returned stateside and married Margie Davenport in 1952. They were married fifty-seven years at the time of his passing. Danny was a brick layer before starting at the Oklahoma County Assessors Office, where he worked until he retired. After retirement, he served on the Board of the Oklahoma County Retirement System as well as the Board of the Porum Landing Volunteer Fire Department. Danny was active in the Putnam City High School Alumni Lunch Bunch for over 20 years. Danny is survived by his wife Margie, his daughter Dana Kay Millsap and husband Rick, their children Matthew and wife Kim, and Colony Perry and husband Joey and their children Olyvia, Carly and Kai. Danny is also survived by his son Gary and wife Rebecca, and Stacey and Jason McCarty, Leslie Gee and great grandchildren Raven, Gabriel, Kylie and Corinna. His son Harold also survives him. Danny is also survived by his brother Carl and wife Edna. Danny was a kind, loving, gentle and generous soul who will be missed by all the family, friends and neighbors he has left behind and welcomed with open arms by those who preceded him. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday, March 20th at the First United Methodist Church of Checotah, 419 West Gentry. His funeral will be held at Mercer- Adams Funeral Home, 3925 North Asbury in Bethany at 2:00 pm, Monday, March 22, 2010, with interment in Bethany Cemetery. Viewing will be from 1:00 to 9:00pm March 21st, at Mercer Adams. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Building Fund of the First United Methodist Church of Checotah.
