Obituary

Dana R. Walker was born in Oklahoma City on June 20, 1959, to RuDell Stiner Walker and Woodrow Walker. Dana stepped into the presence of Jesus on December 1, 2017, after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer. Dana was a proud Pirate, graduating from Putnam City High School in 1977. Dana loved music, but she loved sports more. Always athletic, Dana excelled in sports. At Putnam City she played varsity basketball and softball, and did field events in track and field. She set a state record for the softball throw. Dana continued to enjoy sports as part of company teams for many more years. Danas first job, at 16, was at McDonalds, to earn the money for her first car. She particularly enjoyed dressing up as Ronald McDonald for Halloween. She worked at a variety of jobs, her last one being as Parts Manager at OConnors Lawn and Garden. In 1977 Dana married David L. Rhoads. They had one child, David L. Rhoads, Jr. In 1989, Dana and son, David, enjoyed a whirlwind, two-week-long trip to spend Christmas with her parents, who were living in Belgium. During that time she toured London, Paris, Vienna, and a special time in Germany that included a trip deep underground to visit a salt mine and a sail across an underground salt lake. Dana, always adventurous, rode a Luge down a bobsled run that had been used to train for the Olympics. Dana married Eric McElyea in January 1997, and the two of them shared a love of sports, fishing and camping. Most important of all, they shared a love of the Lord. Through these last 3 years, Dana relied heavily on Eric for his support and loving care. Danas courage, spirit, and trust in Gods plan were an inspiration to all of us. Even the day before she passed away, when the nurse asked Dana if she could get her anything else, Dana replied, "Yes, a new leg." and laughed. Dana was predeceased by her grandparents, her first husband, two aunts, an uncle, and a precious niece, Khloe. She is survived by her husband, Eric McElyea, mother and stepfather, RuDell and John Adkison, sister, Thelma Jo (Tigger) and husband Brad French, brother, Woodrow T. Walker, Jr., son, David Rhoads and wife Torrie, Stephanie Rhoads, and grandchildren, Steven and Emmalee Rhoads, an aunt, many cousins, numerous friends, and her constant companions, Buckley, Bentley, and Shorty, her beloved dogs. A celebration of Danas life will be at Village Baptist Church, 10600 N. May, OKC, on Saturday, December 16, at 1:00.
