Dan Tankersley Jr.
September 16, 1955 - August 7, 2017
Dan Andrew Tankersley Jr. (61) passed away in the early morning hours of August 7th. Born in Oklahoma City to Dan Tankersley Sr. and Jamie Tankersley (Tuttle), Dan was a lifelong Oklahoman. Dan grew up on Portland Ave in still developing Oklahoma City and Bethany and would talk often of long camping trips and swimming in Lake Overholser. A lover of the outdoors, Dan could spend days on end hunting and fishing. Dan graduated from Putnam City High School and briefly attended OSU. Dan worked for the family construction business before starting his own commercial painting company that he operated until taking a job with the FAA. Dan's life was forever changed when he met the love his life, Lynda Diane Parker, whom he married in 1977. Dan and Lynda had 3 children and added a fourth when they selflessly opened their home to their nephew, whom they raised as a son. Dan was a genuine, loving and sweet person who never had a bad word to say about anyone. Dan would never hesitate to help family, friend or stranger. There was no end to his kindness and laughter. Dan brought levity and joy to any occasion. Dan's family was his life. He coached his children's soccer, baseball, football and basketball teams and was a perennial volunteer for their Campfire and Boy Scout troops. Dan loved golf, OU football, John Wayne movies and above all else, his wife Lynda. Dan is survived by his wife Lynda Tankersley (Parker); daughter Amy Tankersley of Lincoln, Nebraska; son Nicholas Tankersley and wife Beth (Grimmett) of Seattle, Washington; son Cody Tankersley and wife Mallory (Dominick) and their three sons Baylen, Branlee and Sutton of El Reno, Oklahoma; son Eric Cherry of Luther, Oklahoma; sister Robin Tankersley of Asheville, North Carolina; and brother Brad Tankersley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Memorial services will be held Friday August 11th at 10:30am at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service, 3925 N. Asbury Ave, Bethany, Oklahoma 73008. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Dans name.
