Dale Eugene "Doc" Rohrbaugh was born on January 20, 1931 in Gray County, Kansas to Albert Leroy and Ida Belle Jenkins Rohrbaugh and died March 1, 2017 at the age of 86.
He lived in a small farming community of Cimarron, Kansas where he attended all of his years of education. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the Navy on October 24, 1950 during the Korean War and served overseas. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. After his discharge in 1954, he became a parts manager at the local Ford dealership. He later got his plumbing license but his dislike and fear of spiders discouraged him in making a career in the heating and plumbing business. He later went to Wichita, Kansas and received technical training and ultimately spent a career in avionics as an electronics inspector. He worked for Commander, Rockwell International and later retired from Gulfstream International after thirty years. During his tenure at Gulfstream he served as Union President for two terms. "Doc" was the final inspector stamp before flight of any plane.
Many will remember him for his love and enthusiasm for breakfast which was his favorite meal of the day. He loved taking his grandsons on Saturday mornings to the Bait House at Lake Overholser and Jims Diner on Route 66. His other loves were chocolate, the western channel, horror films with Vincent Price, OU football, handkerchiefs, holidays, chinese food, red beer, peanut butter, popcorn balls, Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty, playing pool, flannel pajamas, bear hugs and pink coconut snowballs, fishing, Braums and taking his wife to the submarine races at Lake "Holdercloser."
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters and two children. He is survived by his soulmate, Carol, his wife of forty years, five children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, his sister, LaDonna Rice and husband Charles of Stillwater, OK, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Dale "Doc" "Papa" Rohrbaugh loved his country, family and life and will be remembered for his enduring patience. He thanked God for the friends that he met, and for the food that was eaten, for work and play and for all the happy days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Integris Hospice House at 13920 Quailbrook Drive, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73134. Memorial service will be Friday, March 17, 2:00pm in Yukon Cemetery.
