Daisy Goulden was a servant of Christ. Throughout her life she sought and created opportunities to provide comfort and demonstrate "love in action". In the early 90s she volunteered for one of the first Regional Aids Interfaith Network (RAIN) service teams, providing care and support for people living with HIV/AIDS. For more than a decade she volunteered at the Good Shepherd clinic in downtown Oklahoma City. When she no longer wanted to drive after dark she volunteered closer to home at Reaching Our City (ROC) in both the clinic and the food pantry. During the years that she taught nursing she made multiple trips to Mexico where she volunteered in clinics and led childrens worship. She also volunteered at the My Lambs preschool at Bethany First Nazarene where, over the years, she cared for and taught hundreds of children. After her friend Norm experienced a stroke, she volunteered to play cards with him on Friday afternoons to provide respite for his family. This weekly card game continued for the next 22 years. It would be difficult to list each and every time she served or volunteered. She always volunteered as she was able. When she could no longer teach Sunday School, volunteer in the church nursery or prepare funeral dinners, she continued to knit countless scarves and hats for donation to local shelters, and send encouraging text messages to her children and grandchildren.
Daisy Hailman was born on October 06, 1934 to Leo and Lodusky (Cohron) Hailman in Henderson Kentucky. She came to Bethany Nazarene College in 1956. While working as a secretary for Dr. Lawrence she met a Biology student named Darrell R (Ted) Goulden. He was besotted. Daisy and Ted married on March 29, 1958 in Ironton Ohio. After finishing their respective educations, the young couple moved to Tucson Arizona, then back to Oklahoma. In 1965 they settled in Yukon Oklahoma and became active in the congregation of Bethany First Nazarene, where they fostered lifelong, priceless friendships.
Daisy Goulden began her nursing career as a school nurse for the Oklahoma City Public Schools. From there she worked in the office of Dr. Ron Barlow. Around 1980 she returned to school to get a Masters degree in Nursing so she could teach at the Nursing program at Bethany Nazarene College. There was one problem. At that time Bethany Nazarene College did not yet have a Nursing program. For her, that was a minor issue. She informed the head of the Science Department at BNC of her intentions and, because its just easier to do what Daisy says to do, the school worked with her to begin a Nursing Program. She taught Nursing at BNC for more than 20 years.
Daisy was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Lodusky (Cohron) Hailman; her sisters, Sarah and Lucile; and her brothers John and Morris. She is survived by her husband of 63 years Darrell R (Ted) Goulden of Yukon; her son, John and his children JP, Laura and Katy; her son, Tim and Kathy (McGaha) and their children Joshua and Shelbie (Coombs), Caleb, and Seth; her daughter, Helen and Melodie Garneau and their daughter Jane; her special "bonus grandchild" Rachel Weber and Rachels parents Troy and Amy (Kamberi) Weber and her nieces and nephews John, Kathleen, Sherry, Dora, Mandi, Jenifer, Michelle, Ty and Monica.
