Curtis Neal Dorris passed away on September 20, 2016. He was born in Oklahoma City, OK on September 11, 1937 to Walter and Beulah Dorris.
Curtis graduated from Bethany High School in 1955. After graduation, he served in the United States Air Force Reserves and later worked for the United States Postal Service.
Curtis married his best friend and sweetheart, Sandra Kaye Willems on December 11, 1960. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage before her passing in 2012. In 1970, he graduated from Bethany Nazarene College (BNC) with a degree in education, and briefly coached baseball at BNC. Curtis taught history and coached basketball and baseball at Putnam City West, Perkins, and Mustang High Schools. He retired from teaching and coaching in 1995 and worked faithfully for many years following at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene.
Curtis loved his Lord, his family, his church, and his community. He loved to talk about the old days of Bethany and share memories of being part of the Bethany 1955 State Championship Baseball Team. Always a coach at heart, sports were his favorite pastime, and he frequented BHS and SNU ballgames every chance that he had.
Curtis is survived by his daughter, Kim Huffman and husband Paul of Oklahoma City; son, Derek Dorris and wife Tiffany of Bethany; grandchildren, Jeremy, Adam, Grace, Megan, Landon, Molly and Ava; great-grandchildren, Mattie, Cade, and Abbey; his brothers, Robert Dorris, Roy Dorris and wife Rebecca, Harold Dorris and wife Marge. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sandra; sister, Roberta Hibbert; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Grace Huffman.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and friends of Southern Plaza, physicians and nurses at Oklahoma Heart Hospital, and nurses at Integris Hospice House. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SNU Womens Basketball Program, 6729 NW 39th Expressway, Bethany, OK 73008.Viewing will be Sunday, 11am-9pm, with family present from 3-5pm at Mercer-Adams. Services will be Monday, September 26, 2:00pm at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene with interment in Bethany Cemetery.
