On Sunday morning, October 19, 2008, Corinne Hanna Butt-Hufford slipped peacefully from this life into the glorious presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born in Ruthven, Iowa in 1920 to Mary Isobel Scott and Clay Spencer Hanna, Corinne spent her high school years in Colorado, graduating from Denver North High School. She remained connected to her classmates throughout her life, attending many reunions, including her sixtieth.
In Denver she met and married Cecil Creswell Butt, her dearly loved husband of forty-two years with whom she had four children. After Cecils death in 1982, she met and married Albert Dean Hufford of Kansas City. Corinne and Dean created a loving second family, investing much of their time supporting all the children and their families. Corinne was generous with her hugs, time, and prayers.
Remembered by those who knew her as an energetic, affectionate and outgoing person, Corinne loved foreign travel and spending winters in the Florida Keys in their motor home. An avid baseball fan, she was secretary of the American Baseball Association during the years that former Yankee pitcher Allie P. Reynolds served as president. She was retired from Farmland Industries in K.C.M.O.
One of Corinnes greatest joys was cooking and entertaining for family and friends. Her outstanding cooking was featured in the Kansas City Star Newspapers Best Cooks section, and her recipes appeared in the Kansas Citys Star Cooks cookbook.
Corinne was preceded in death by her two husbands, Cecil and Dean, her beloved sister Josephine Hanna Cassell, son Richard Hufford, and best friend, Henri Broadbeck. She is survived by seven children: Adele Heeter, Susan McFarland, Arlene Creswell, Roy Butt, Holly Hufford, Allen Butt, and Judy Mayfield, as well as thirteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to Bellevue Nursing Center for all their loving and professional care during the last two and a half years of her life.
Having spent part of their childhood in an orphanage during the Great Depression, Corinne and Josephine had a special concern for orphans. Corinne did volunteer work and supported Goodland Presbyterian Childrens Home as an adult.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Goodland Childrens Home, P.O. Box 1056, Hugo, Oklahoma, 74743.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00 to 9:00 at Mercer-Adams in Bethany. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday, October 27, at Chapel Hill Cemetery. A memorial service will be at 4:00 p.m. on the same day at Central Presbyterian Church with a reception following.
