Conita Ann Hargraves was born to William David, Jr., and Clyda Louise McLain Hargraves on January 29, 1932, in Lawton, Oklahoma. Coni graduated from Lawton High School in 1950. Upon high school graduation, Coni spent two years at Oklahoma College for Women and one year at the University of Oklahoma before marrying Reagan Howard Bradford on August 13, 1953. In 1954, Reagan Howard Bradford, Jr. was born, and in 1958 Reagan and Coni's second son, James David Bradford, was born.
When David began first grade, Coni returned to part time college and served as Junior Coordinator for Northwest Baptist Church. Coni also served as the Madison Elementary PTA President from 1962-1963. She then received her bachelor's degree in 1968 from Central State College. Coni began her teaching career at Northwest Classen High School, where she taught for 17 years. She went on to serve as interim Assistant Principal at Northwest Classen, Capitol Hill High School, and Star Spencer High School.
Coni then taught at Douglass High School for four years, completing 25 years of teaching/administrative service with Oklahoma City Public Schools. She received her Doctor of Education degree in 1985 from Oklahoma State University. Coni also served as president of Delta Kappa Gamma and president of Central State Home Economic graduates at Central State College. She was the recipient of the Oklahoma Home Economics Teacher of the year in 1982. Upon retirement from Oklahoma City Public Schools, Coni taught in the Children's area of Northwest Baptist Church and participated in the adult choir.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reagan and granddaughter, Brooke. She is survived by her two sons, Dr. Reagan H. Bradford, Jr. and wife Cynthia of Edmond, and Dr. J. David Bradford and wife Jan of Little Rock; seven grandchildren, Shawn Bradford and wife Heather of Edmond, Brandon Bradford and wife Rebekah of Edmond, Reagan E. Bradford and wife Keri of Nichols Hills, Beth Corcoran and husband Curtis of Norman, Ben Bradford and wife Sarah of Little Rock, and Blake Bradford of Little Rock; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Services for Coni will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Northwest Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. Lead Pastor Rob Lindley will officiate.
