Obituary

KINZY, Cleveland Cleve Draper, born April 29, 1926, passed away on December 3, 2011. He was born in Simla, India to Dr. Leo and Lillian Kate (Draper) Kinzy. Cleve was an avid reader and lifetime learner. As a boy in India, he developed an insatiable curiosity and enjoyed telling about the day he touched Gandhi. He came to the United States at the age of 12 with his father where they lived in Eskridge, Kansas before moving to OKC. Cleve graduated from Central High School, class of 1944. He served in the navy during WWII. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity at Oklahoma University before being called back to service in the Korean War. He served as a Corpsman 1st Marines H-3-5, Inchon to the Chosin Reservoir before he was wounded in December, 1950. He received the Purple Heart and was very proud of his military service. He joined the OKC Fire Department in 1951 and retired as Captain after 31 years. Cleve always had a love of nature and was a Distinguished Master Gardner. (He was known to say, Dandelions offend me.) He also enjoyed the sport of homing pigeons, and was Past President of the Texas Center Pigeon Association. He served as Past President of the Retired Firefighters Association and of the Chosin Few, OK Chapter. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans and Order of the Purple Heart. He was on the Board of the Central High School Alumni Association, and was a Charter member of the Loyalty Partners Sunday School Class at the First Christian Church, where he was a member for over 60 years. He belonged to the Masonic Blue Siloam, Lodge, 32nd Degree Mason, McAlester and was a Shriner, India Temple. Cleve dearly loved his family, often telling his girls that he adored them. He was preceded in death by two infant children, Kirkland and Kara Kim, infant granddaughter, Ashley Mach, his father, Leo, and his mother, Lillian Kate. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Junavon (June); 3 daughters, Kyla Kay and husband David Mach, Karen Kate and husband Nick Palumbo, Kristin Karyl and husband Dr. Michael J. Reed; brother, William Geoffrey Floyd of Plymouth, England; grandchildren, Christopher and wife Liz, Kinzy and wife Shannon, Ryan, Nathan and wife Darcy, Sawyer, Tucker, Harper, David, Shaun and Dustin; great-grandchildren, Cody, Gianna and Alexis. Viewing will be Wed. and Thurs., 8am-9pm with the family receiving friends from 6-8pm Thursday at Mercer- Adams. Services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, December 9, 2011 and First Christian Church, N.W. 36TH and Walker. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
