Clarence Tate was born Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1918, and passed away May 1, 2009. Clarence proudly served his country for 31 years in the U.S. Army and fought in both World War II and the Korean War, retiring with the rank of Command Sergeant Major. While serving in the military, he earned too many medals and accommodations to mention. Clarence also graduated from Eastern Oklahoma A&M and attended Central State College pursuing a degree in Elementary Education. He also proudly worked as a letter carrier for the Bethany Postal Service where he retired after 16 years. He was an avid bridge player and loved serving his community. He attended Portland Avenue Baptist Church for 15 years, making many friends and serving the Lord. Clarence is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ada May Tate; one son, John Tate and wife Carla of Piedmont, OK; five daughters, Judy Hallbauer of AZ, Sue Doolittle of AZ, Sally Munson and husband David of Choctaw, OK, Joan Heinkens and husband Dan of AK, Karen Smith and husband Terry of FL; 13 grandchildren, Jon Mulkey, Suzette Winkles, Jim Mulkey, Judy Howard, Johnnie Tate, Gary Munson, Michael Munson, Tyler Munson, Tina Delarm, Bruce Tate, Karie Richardson, Mary Smith, Sarah McCoy; 16 great-grandchildren, Crystal Mulkey, Brandy Mulkey, Sue Lynn Winkles, Blake Mulkey, Kane Russell, Megan Stark, Mandaline Howard, EmmaLee Howard, Sarah Howard, Chloe Tate, Autumn Tate, Shadow Delarm, James Tate, Philip Richardson, Benjamin Smith, Elijah McCoy and Zane McCoy; and 2 great-great grandchildren. Services will be held Thursday, May 7, 10:00 a.m. at Portland Avenue Baptist Church with interment following at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
