Clara Jean Peterson was born to Averill and Clara Smith on July 13, 1927 in San Antonio, TX and died September 3, 2011 in Yukon, OK. Her family moved to OKC soon after she was born and she lived most of her life in the area, attending Wilson Elementary, Harding Jr. High, and graduating from Classen in 1945. She was a graduate of Southern Nazarene University where she met her husband, Marvin Peterson. They were married in 1947 and lived in Bethany 55 years. Their only son, David, resides in Dallas. For 20 years, C.J. was periodicals librarian at S.N.U. She enjoyed her association with the faculty and students immensely. The retirement years were fulfilling including seven trips to Europe. Her church friends from OKC First Church of the Nazarene, where she was an active member for 40 years, and from Bethany First Nazarene during later years, were an enriching part of her life. During this time, she wrote a humorous column in the weekly newsletter called ON THE WAY WITH C.J. and also a column in the S.N.U. alumni publication called OUT OF IT. In 2004, Marvin and C.J. moved to Spanish Cove, a retirement community in Yukon which, according to C.J., was the good lifeclose to perfect. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Marvin; her son, David, of Dallas; and one brother, Edward Smith, of Springdale, AR. Services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 6, 10:00am at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene with interment in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Peterson Scholarship Fund at South Nazarene University. To share a memory or condolence, visit www.mercer-adams.com
