CHUAN VAN NGUYEN
January 10, 1948 April 30, 2021
Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather has transitioned to life in heaven. He is survived by his wife, Mai; children, Snow, Nga, Hong, John, Tony, Kevin; children in-law, Thinh, Mike, Viet, Kim, Keygan; grandchildren, Tiffany, Ashley & Houssine, Jasmine, Brandon, Dylan, Kenneth, Christian, Adam, Sophia and Izabella.
Chuan was a war veteran in Vietnam, fighting for democracy and equal freedom during a tumultuous time. In 1975, he and Mai made the crucial decision to migrate to the United States. With parents and four children alongside at the time, their first home in the U.S. was in Chicago where they were sponsored by Catholic Charities Organization. Learning the way of the life in the states was daunting, but Chuan defied all odds and persevered through every challenge. Another life-altering decision was relocating the family to Oklahoma City in 1978. Since then, he settled and established himself with a close circle of friends and found a permanent home in the heart of the city. As the family started to grow, Chuan worked several jobs in order to make ends meet including a long-tenured career as a chief machine operator with M-D Building Products.
In addition to parental responsibilities, Chuan became a proactive member at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral. His faithful service spans through decades from church choir leader, Vietnamese community president, community speaker, and parish assistant/advisor. His tireless work for the community and families abroad confirmed the lifetime commitment he set for himself.
Chuans retirement life revolved around faith and family. Quality time with family and continued involvement with the church quickly became the primary joys of his life. His love for religion, music, sports and home-cooked food sparked signature moments with the family.
We will remember him as the gold standard and family patriarch. He was beloved by many and idolized within and afar. The true fighting spirit he had was remarkable and something to witness. He embodies strength, courage and purpose at its finest. Our family is heartbroken and shattered to not have Dad with us here. With so many emotions running through, this loss will never be filled. Please have us in your thoughts and prayers as we learn to navigate life without our main pillar.
