Obituary

After a courageous 7-year battle fighting metastatic breast cancer, Christi Ann (Carrier) Crowder peacefully started her next journey.

Christi was born in Enid, OK on March 21st, 1955. She attended Carrier schools through the 9th grade, but it was the summer when she "worked" at her dad and grandad's gas station, Carrier Oil & Propane Company, that she remembered with fondness. Staying up late during the wheat harvest was a "big deal" at the time.

In 1970, her dad was appointed US Marshal for the Western District of Oklahoma so her family moved to Mustang, Oklahoma. She attended high school there and made many friends with whom she stayed in contact throughout her life. Christi had lots of stories about those days and of course, she made most of them funny. After high school, she attended Oklahoma State University where she earned an associate's degree in business.

Christi married Ron Crowder in 1980. They had a son, Travis, in 1985. Ron passed away in 2001, and Christi maintained the family home so Travis could have stability. Both he and his mother are graduates of Mustang High School and Oklahoma State University. Christi often said of her son, "he's my best work."

Being around law officers and occasionally getting to watch a trial developed her interest in the law. She returned to school to become a legal assistant and graduated from Rose State College with a degree in legal assistance. She opted to take a rigorous 2-day test to become an official legal assistant in 1995, a distinction held by few in Oklahoma at that time. Christi was a certified legal assistant for 25 years and worked in the legal field for over 40 years. She worked for the OK Bureau of Narcotics for eight years and "made the narcs look good" in their reports.

Christi retired from the Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals in July 2021. Her last 3 years there were the best, and she always said how grateful she was to have the judges and coworkers who supported her during her breast cancer fight, especially coupled with the covid pandemic.

Christi was preceded in death by her husband; her father, Gene Carrier; her mother, Janice Munkres; and her stepfather, Verle Munkres. She is survived by her stepmother, Maude Carrier; and many family members and friends. She wants everyone to know how awesome her stepmother was in caring for her after the many surgeries she endured. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Travis and Jenna Crowder, and their children Reese and Isla. She loved these kids for moving back home to Oklahoma when they learned of her illness. She is so proud of their successes as a professional engineer and medical doctor, as well as awesome parents. She is also survived by her "significant other", Gerald Meiwes. He made her laugh out loud every day, even while he was in his own battle with the "C" word.

Special thanks go to her friends and family who helped take care of her during her battle with the beast: Phil and Janis Brown, Cheryl and Ron Cooley, Marty Howard, Jeannie Patrigo, Colette and Kent Carlisle, Darla Conn, Susan Gomad, Vicki Stevens, Luann Darrow, and many others too numerous to mention.

In lieu of flowers, Christi requested donations be made to Project 31, a breast cancer support group. As she often said, they talked her off the ledge more than once! The address is PO Box 5301 Edmond, OK 73083.
