Chloe "Marie"
Hopson
Jan 26, 1920 — Jan 4, 2025
Chloe Marie (Ratley) Hopson passed away January 4, 2025 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was born January 26, 1920 in Marshall, Texas to William Davis (Bud) and Annie Rebecca Holt Ratley. When Marie was five years old her mother died, leaving her dad to raise Marie and her five-month-old sister, Verna. Three years later Bud married Estelle. Marie had three more sisters, Esther, Betty Lou and Daisy. After the death of Estelle when Marie was 16, she helped raise her siblings.
Marie graduated from Marshall High School in 1937 and attended St. Mary's Academy where she completed a business course.
At the age of 22, she met and married Cecil A. Fleming. They were the parents of Bill, Wanda, and Mark, who grew up in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Marie later moved to Tulsa to be near her son Mark while he was in school. She then moved to Enid, Oklahoma where she met and married Earl Lee Hopson in 1975 and gained two additional children, Anna Sue Luckinbill and Doyle Hopson.
In 2007 Marie moved to Oklahoma City and joined Putnam City Baptist Church. She looked forward to Saturday morning breakfast with Bill and Sharon, followed by shopping at estate sales. She became a resident of Baptist Village in 2018 and was cared for by her daughter, Wanda, until her death.
Marie enjoyed playing cards and dominoes until she was 100 years old when her eyesight began to fail. She was extremely competitive and was a frequent winner! She loved weekly game night with the ladies from Putnam City Baptist Church. She participated in a women's Bible study and for several years, regularly visited residents in the nursing home at St. Ann.
Marie served as Financial Secretary at Emmanuel Baptist Church while living in Enid, which made her the perfect volunteer to count money on Monday mornings at PCBC. While living in Lawton, she was a member of the Business and Professional Women.
Marie loved to travel. She went on cruises to Europe, traveled through Scotland with Mark and family, and traipsed all over Germany with Bill and Sharon at the age of 85. Some of the younger family members couldn't keep up with her! Later, one of her favorite places was Branson, Missouri, where she loved shows and shopping! Surprisingly, a week before she died, she was asking Sharon and Wanda to go to Dillard's to see the latest fashions!
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, William and Annie Ratley; two siblings who died in infancy; and sisters, Verna, Esther, Betty Lou and Daisy. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Cecil Fleming and Earl Hop-son; son-in-law, Ray Halbert; son, Doyle Hopson; grandson, Grant Janzen; and grandson, William Fleming, Jr.
She is survived by her son, Bill and wife Sharon Fleming; daughter, Wanda Halbert; son, Mark and wife Lindsay Fleming; daughter, Anna Sue and husband Dennis Luckinbill; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Marie was greatly loved and she will be greatly missed.
