Chester Lee Crotts was born to Clarence and Grace Crotts on January 12, 1917, in Turon, Kansas. As he went to school, he also worked on the family farm. After graduation from Turon High School, he attended Kansas State University and played in the band. After Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp. He served as a navigator on a B-24 in the 24th combat mapping squadron in the China Burma India Theater. He spoke many times of his flights over the Hump the Himalaya Mountains into China. He cherished his World War II friends all his life. Shortly before he left for overseas, he met Mayredean Riley. They corresponded throughout the war and were married shortly after he returned on May 27, 1945. Chester joined his father-in-law in the oilfield machine shop business and they lived in Illinois for several years. They had two daughters, Mayre Lee, born on October, 1946, and Pamela Jane born in March, 1948. They soon moved to Maysville, Oklahoma, where he operated, then owned with Mayredean, Beaver Tool and Machine Company for many years. In 1952, the family moved to Oklahoma City where they lived for many years. As his family grew up, he enjoyed watching his girls in their school and band activities. Shortly before his death, he moved to Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, in order to be closer to Mayre Lee. His affiliations throughout the years include: American Legion, Masons, Rotary, the 24th Combat Mapping Squadron, and he was a long time member of University Place Christian Church and the Christianaires Sunday School Class in Oklahoma City. He enjoyed his family and holidays when everyone was home, the home on 18th street in Oklahoma City, football games especially when they involved family road trips and squadron reunions. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mayredean, and his daughter Pam. Also, his parents, his brother Harold and sister Lois. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Mayre Lee and Dwayne Norwood of Maysville, Oklahoma, his granddaughter Mayre Jantz and her husband Tony of Arlington, Texas, his grandson Lee Norwood of Duluth, Georgia, and his great-grandchildren J.D. and Libby Jantz of Arlington, Texas.
