Obituary

Cheryl Denise Smith-Bruner was born to Julius Sr. and Willie Smith on June 16, 1958, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was the fourth child born of seven children. She was preceded in death by one brother, Donald C. Frost. She attended Garden Oaks Elementary and graduated from Emerson High School. She attended Rose State College and received various certificates and awards. She accepted Christ at an early age at Nealy Temple C.O.G.I.C., later she united with the Redeemed Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor L.R. Drinkwater, Sr. until death. She was a member of the Pastors Aide, Missionary #3, Helping Hands Ministry and Drill Team Sponsor. Cheryl was employed by Catholic Charities Holy Family Home for pregnant teens for 16 years, where she was a house parent. In 2006, she began working as a prekindergarten teacher at Young Achievers Christian Academy, also until death. Her love for children and youth was exemplified greatly through her work. On June 11, 2005 she was joined in marriage to Johnny Bruner, to this union one child was born, Morgan Bruner. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters: Charitta Smith (Karl), Morgan Bruner; two sons: Christopher Martez Smith (ShaRaye) and Kentrell Brown; parents, Willie B. Smith and Julius C. Smith, Sr.; two sisters: Kathy Lawrence and Patrice Robinson (Karl); three brothers: Kenneth Smith (Deirdr), Anthony Smith (Melvina), and Julius Smith Jr. (Kimberly); five grandchildren: KenTrevion, Christopher, Kneah Smith, Karl and Kyle Madison, all of Oklahoma City, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, December 7, 11:00 a.m. at Redeemed Missionary Baptist Church with interment in Hillcrest Memory Gardens, Spencer, Oklahoma.
