On Saturday, July 17, a very special young lady was taken to heaven after a three month illness. Cherokee Michelle Forsberg was born in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma on February 6, 1994. Due to Cherokees serious medical complications, she was placed into the custody of the state of Oklahoma by her biological mother. Cherokee spent her first months at the O.U. Childrens Hospital and was then transferred to The Childrens Center in Bethany, Oklahoma. Her beautiful countenance and cheerful spirit caught the attention of DeVonna Forsberg, then an employee at The Childrens Center. DeVonna Forsberg and her husband Doug adopted Cherokee and lovingly cared for her until her death. Cherokee was a heart thief and stole the hearts of all who met her. Her indomitable spirit, courage, love for life and people enabled her to survive many physical challenges including brain cancer at age 8 and bone cancer at age 14. All of us left behind will greatly miss her precious smile, loving spirit, soft blue eyes and tender hugs. Her courage in difficult times and joy and gratitude in the good times will continue to inspire us for the rest of our lives. How we thank God for the gifts of inspiration she so willingly gave us. Cherokee is survived by many friends, her parents, Doug and DeVonna Forsberg of Yukon, Oklahoma, her maternal grandparents Dan and Carolyn Breedlove of Fort Worth, Texas, and her paternal grandparents Dwayne and Inez Forsberg of Lees Summit, Missouri. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 22, 2:00pm at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene with private family interment in Yukon Cemetery.
