On Wednesday, December 9, 2020, Charles Richard "Dick" Spear, loving husband and father of two daughters, passed away at the age of 73. Dick was born February 3, 1947 to Roy "Sam" and Helen Spear in Boise, Idaho. Early in life he moved to Hiwasse, Arkansas where he was raised with his 3 brothers. He attended college at Bethany Nazarene College (now Southern Nazarene University). Dick joined the Navy in 1966 and served one tour in Vietnam and one tour in the Mediterranean. He was honorably discharged after 4 years of service and returned to BNC where he achieved a degree in Sociology. On May 26, 1973 he married Rhonda Gilbert of Overland Park, Kansas. Dick and Rhonda initially made their home in Bethany, Oklahoma and later moved to Yukon, OK.
Dick began a career working at the Berry House where he was an advocate for at-risk juveniles. As a part of this career he went on to get a Masters degree in Criminal Justice from Oklahoma City University. He later became an adjuster at State Farm where he would work until 1996. Dick would then go on to work with Bumpus Roofing and Aegis Roofing. He would retire to full-time Grandpa duty in 2015.
Dick enjoyed tinkering and dabbling in many hobbies. He enjoyed fishing with friends and family, wood working, reading and playing his mandolin. He was a long-time member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene where he sang in the choir and participated as a member of the Life Lifters Sunday School class. Dick and Rhonda were also very active in their lively Sunday night small group. He enjoyed attending basketball, baseball and soccer games as well as concerts and recitals to support his grandchildren.
Dick is survived by his loving wife Rhonda; his daughters, Kimberly and husband Robby Patton, and Megan and husband Danny Peach; six grandchildren, Riley Patton, Olivia Patton, Sophia Patton, Owen Peach, Jacob Peach, and Makenna Peach, all of Yukon, OK; his three brothers, Dwight and Betty Spear of Bella Vista, AR, David and Charlotte Spear of Gravette, AR, and Duane and Janie Spear of Gravette, AR. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam (2016) and Helen (2005) Spear.
Memorial services will be Thursday, December 17, 2:00pm at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene.
