Charles, age 93, was welcomed to Heaven on June 15, 2011, after a short battle with leukemia. "Charlie," as he was known to many, was born Jan 22, 1918, in Jasper, AL, to Sidney and Nancy (Henson) Rushing. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Emma Jean; son, Rick (Densi); daughter, Linda Cannata (Kurt); three grandchildren, Leslie Nance, Katherine Hoskins, and Sam Rushing; sisters Eulene Keller and Jeannette Hardison; brother Pete Rushing; many nieces and nephews. By age 17 Charles had dedicated his life and voice to the Lord's service. His family soon formed a Gospel singing group, the Rushing Family Singers, going on to conduct countless revivals and concerts across the U.S. During this time, Charles served in WWII, continued his ministry while serving, then resumed singing with the family upon discharge. Thousands of souls were brought into the fold as a direct result of their widespread evangelism. As the result of an audition for the group, he met future wife, Emma Jean McCollough. Later, Charles and Emma Jean continued to travel as song evangelists. After being ordained in the Church of the Nazarene, he pastored churches in several states, continuing to witness with his tremendous voice. Charles loved the great outdoors and always had a garden, usually large enough to feed family and neighbors! He loved tending his garden, but loved tending his fellow man's relationship with the Lord much more. With his signature smile and gentle ways, Charles had a deep impact on those whose lives he touched - it can truly be said Charles never met a stranger. Memorial service will be held Sat., June 25, 10:00am at Bethany 1st Church of the Nazarene. To share a memory or condolence, visit www.mercer-adams.com
