Goodin, Charles Ray, age 76, long time Oklahoma City Insurance executive passed away on January 21, 2011. Charles was born September 24, 1934, in the Indian Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma to Ella M. and Jesse Goodin. Charles was the great grandson of Quanah Parker, the last Chief of the Comanches. He lived with his Indian grandmother, Nah-mah-kuh Parker Cox, at the Indian mission for the first five years of his life. Charles grew up in Lawton and attended Lawton schools, graduating from Lawton High School in 1954. He attended Cameron College where he received an Associate in Arts Degree in 1956. He then went on to his beloved Oklahoma State University where he received his B.A. in 1958. He was an avid supporter of the OSU football program and a life member of the OSU Alumni Association. After college he came to Oklahoma City where he joined Mutual of New York Insurance Company for 3 years. In 1961, he joined the Globe Life and Accident Insurance Company as their first Life Supervisor and traveled around the country for Globe. In 1961, he married DeAnna M. Moreland from Alva, Oklahoma; they were married for 33 years. In 1962, he went to Lubbock, TX to open their first Sales office. He left Globe in 1968 and returned to Oklahoma City to be affiliated with Life Corporation of America. In 1971, he returned to Globe Life / United American as their Branch Manager of the Oklahoma City. He retired in 2001 after 39 years. He was a past president of the Oklahoma Association of Health Underwriters and over the years fought tirelessly to improve his industry and the career opportunities of the sales reps who worked alongside him. After his retirement he established Goodin Properties, a property rental company in Oklahoma City. He greatly enjoyed the daily interaction with residents and staff. He was a member of the Oklahoma National Guard for eight years serving as an enlisted man for five years and an officer for the last three. He enjoyed traveling to new places and playing golf with his life-long friends at Oak Tree and Quail Creek Country Club. He loved sports and liked to shoot baskets, throw the football and play ping-pong with the kids. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Shawna Kaye Goodin, age 18, who was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1985; his brother, Theodore Parker Goodin in 1966; and his parents, Ella M. and George B. Lutz. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Kaye Goodin whom he married in 2001 and his son, Derek R. Goodin, wife Valerie K. and grandkids, Reed W. and Sydney K. Goodin of Town & Country, Missouri. His sister, Patricia L. Craig of San Jose, CA and 4 nephews, Major General Jonathan D. George, Douglas A. Goodin, Larry T. Goodin and William S. (Billy) Craig and 1 niece, Carol E. Goodin and several cousins. He is also survived by his new family, with three step children Matthew D. Casper, Drew D. Casper, wife Susan and daughter Josephine and Ginger K. Maxted, husband Mark and children Wesley, Wiley and Eleanor. Charles liked to celebrate life. He always did things His Way, even though they appeared unconventional to others. Charles never met a stranger. He invested a lot of time in people with his questions and warm touch. He challenged those around him to be the best they could be and NEVER settle for less. He loved the underdog and fought hard to give others an opportunity to be successful. Services will be held at 10am January 25, 2011 at Mercer Adams Funeral Home in Bethany with Indian internment at Resurrection Cemetery.
