Charles "Charlie" Gilland passed away on August 20, 2013 in Yukon, Oklahoma. He was born on May 25, 1920 in the small farming community of Gentry, MO. He attended Albany High School where he graduated in 1938. It was in high school where he met Aladine Gartin. They were married October 29, 1939. Charles and Aladine were blessed with 59 years of marriage. His darling daughter, Charlene Newkirk, was born on May 3, 1941 in Grant City, MO. Charlie and Aladine moved to Wichita, KS in 1943, making a stop in Denver, CO. He worked for Beechcraft and was there until he was drafted into the Army where he spent three years as a Tail Gunner. After the service, Charlie worked for Garnett Auto Supply in Wichita, KS for 12 years. In 1951, while attending First Christian Church, he and Charlene were baptized together. They moved to Kansas City, MO, where Charlie was one of the top auto parts salesmen. He and Aladine attended Countryside Christian Church where they were members for 23 years. Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Aladine, who passed away in 1998. He then moved to Oklahoma City with Charlene where he attended Western Oaks Christian Church and was a member of Rejoice and Serve Sunday School class. Charlie was an avid sports fan. He loved the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs. He spent many hours viewing the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and Thunder basketball. Although he was a Kansas Jayhawk fan, he soon developed a love for OU. Charlie loved to bowl and was a card "shark" mastering the games of Pitch, Thirteen and Bridge. Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, his sister, Eulea Millikin and brother, Laverne Gilland. He is survived by Charlene, grandchildren Kelley, Shawn, Patrick and Erin, and sister, Inez Gilland. Grandpa Chuck was blessed with 10 great-grandchildren, Karey Wise, Matthew Wise, Nicole Workman, Sasha Newkirk, Alexandra Newkirk, Kevin Newkirk, Hunter Newkirk, Mikaela Workman, Kristopher Newkirk, and Keaton Newkirk; and many wonderful friends and family. Viewing will be Thursday, 9am-9pm, with family present from 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams. Services will be held at Western Oaks Christian Church on Friday, August 23, 2013 at 10:30am.
