Charlene went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 14, surrounded by her loving family. Charlene was born in Halls Summit, Kansas, and grew up on a farm along with her brothers and sisters. In June, 1939, she married John Melvin Johnson, Sr. In 1940, the couple moved to Oklahoma City to find work and start a family. Charlene was a homemaker while John worked as a mechanic. Later, after her children had grown, Charlene worked for several years at Welch's Nut Company and Sears Roebuck & Co. Charlene was an active member of Portland Avenue Baptist Church for more than fifty years, where she visited the sick and helped out in the church office. She was also active in the Order of the Eastern Star, serving several terms as the Worthy Matron of her chapter. Charlene loved playing parlor games, and enjoyed countless evenings of dominoes, UNO and SKIP-BO with family and friends. Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, William and Maude Bouse; her husband of sixty-two years, John; her daughter, Claudia Bradshaw; her sisters, Zenoba Raines, Pauline Bouse , and Lucille Bouse; and brother, Harold Bouse. Charlene is survived by sisters, Maxine Simmons of Independence, Kansas, and Betty Surprise of El Dorado Springs, Missouri; her brother, Dale Johnson of Branson, Missouri; her son, John Melvin Johnson, Jr. and his wife Cora Lea of Edmond; her son-in-law, John Bradshaw of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, John William Johnson and his wife Jennifer of Edmond, Jim Johnson and his wife Wendy of Stillwater, Tammy Johnson of Edmond, Donald Hightower and his wife Janine Abmayr of Houston, Texas, Sarah Lewis of Chicago, Illinois, Raymond Bradshaw and his wife Christina of Yukon; and great-grandchildren, Christopher Boren and wife Saralynn, Micheal Johnson, Becca Johnson, Victoria Abmayr, Joshua Hightower, and Roger Bradshaw; and many other nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, 6-8 p.m. at Mercer-Adams. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, September 17, at Portland Avenue Baptist Church, with graveside services to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends make a contribution to Senior Adult Ministry at Portland Avenue Baptist Church, 1301 N. Portland Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73107.
