Fletcher Melville
Apr 5, 1933 — May 4, 2024
In remembrance of Charlcie Pauline Carlton Fletcher Melville who passed away on May 4, 2024 in Norman, OK.
Pauline was born April 5, 1933 to Charlie and Reba Carlton in Hobart, Oklahoma. She grew up during the great depression in rural Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle. She graduated high school in Sun Ray, Texas in May 1950 and eloped to Clayton, New Mexico to wed Marcus Leo Fletcher May 27, 1950. This 47-year marriage produced three sons, Mike 1951, Mark 1955 and Milton 1959.
In the late 50's, Pauline and Leo enjoyed square dancing at Guys and Dolls club in Edmond Oklahoma where they were elected officials. In the 1960's they were instrumental participants in the funding drives of the Bethany YMCA and Tri City Athletic Association. In 1968, Pauline and Leo respectively served as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron of Putnam City Chapter 477 Order of Eastern Star. Also, during this period, they studied job related industrial engineering courses at the newly built OSU Tech in Oklahoma City.
Pauline was a proud employee of Western Electric and enjoyed 33 years of service in the industrial engineering department. She loved her work and coworkers.
After retirement, she embraced genealogical studies and organized many research tours to Salt Lake City, Utah to assist others in family research and Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) inclusion.
After Leo's passing in 1997, Pauline remarried retired Army Veteran J.R. Melville and moved to Norman, Oklahoma. For the next 25 years they rekindled a love of square dancing. Together they promenaded to square dance National conventions in Minneapolis, MN, Anaheim, CA, Baltimore, MD, and Denver, CO. Pauline loved listening to J.R. practice and perform music concerts at Norman Institute of Music.
She became an adept bowling scorekeeper for many bowling teams at Sooner Bowl. J.R. and Pauline enjoyed each other's company until her earthly departure.
She was preceded in death by son, Milton LeRoy Fletcher.
Pauline is survived by husband of 25 years, J.R. Melville; sons, Mike (Cherie), Mark (Lynn); 3 grandchildren, Angela Fletcher, Matthew Fletcher (Rose), Michael Steven Fletcher Engelking; and 2 great grandchildren, Carina Rose and Linnea Elizabeth Fletcher.
